I see a lot of guys mentioning brand names. Just curious, what are your opinions on RHEEM?

They're good, and they're offering a $200 rebate on their energy efficient 40/50 gallon heaters...

We just replaced one in my mother's house. She bought a Richmond with a tank on sale at Menard's for around $300. My uncle is a plumber and he told her to get one with a tank.

Then your uncle must not be a skilled tradesman if he suggested a tank version.

I saw a Bob Vila show recently. He was pushing tankless.

I keep hearing arguments pro and con. We are going to need a new water heater at some point. I wish I knew which way to go.

Frank, lets do a little experiment here. Ready?

My buddy is the manufacturer rep for AO Smith in a five state region.

He recommends using a tank system.

I agree. Usually because the actual helpful get lost in the failed attempts at humor.

The other thing is the outright dismissal of expert opinion.

and do you want to bet Bob gets a check from his sponsor?

In theory the Tankless is a great option. As more and more people got jacuzzis and more shower features in master bedrooms, people wanted this endless supply of HW...but they are hard to install and not easy to maintain.

If you are a plumber, I am sure it's a great call, as you can clean it twice a year to make sure it works well or if you have a full time staff taking care of your house, otherwise it's just a mistake.

If HW is such an issue get a 150 gallon tank with a 95% efficency.

You have some good opinions.

But expert, really?
