I was huge into it in the late 80's early 90's. I dug up my old cards and found out I had some good stuff,(Henderson, Ripken, Boggs, Gwynn RC's) so i started buying a ton of shit. I literally have thousands of commons in storage. I have about a dozen fairly valuable cards in holders. (1989 UD Ken Griffey Jr. RC, a few Jordan RC) I haven't had to pawn them yet. :D They're more for sentimental value than monetary.

It still amazes me that the McGwire rookies were skyrocketing when he broke the record. I believe the US Baseball team "rookies" were selling for around $2,500. I should have gotten rid of a few of them then. Now they're $4.

I've had a condition since I was about age 10 ... C.P.O. ... I'm a Compulsive Pack Opener. I know if I start with just one, it will ramp up to dozens and dozens of packs of cards .... Baseball, Basketball, Magic, it doesn't matter .... shit, I know nothing about Pokemon other than its name, and if you threw a handful of sealed packs of them in front of me I'd giddily open them, look at them even though I wouldn't know what I was looking at.

I still have some BB cards from the '70s and '80s, but I jumped in pretty heavy in the early '90s - just as the bubble burst :(

I have about two medium bins of incomplete sets, commons, doubles, inserts from like 1992 - 1994. A lot of hockey (including ProSet... ), some baseball and basketball.

Anyone want 'em relatively cheap?

I'll meet you in Oak Lawn and take them off your hands, but that's as far south as I'm driving.

Used to love trading cards...every Saturday morning at Grandma's house, swapping cards with the cousins.

I always got fleeced though...while my brother was doing work putting together entire sets, I was busy amassing as many Junior Felix cards as I could...for the love of all that is holy, I don't know why.

Of all the cards I remember, my favorite series was this:

The only reason I made money on hockey cards was I got very lucky.
First year United Center opened they where selling old packs for $1 a shot. I got 10. In one pack was J.R. in All Star gear. In another was Chelly in same gear.(purple shirts) I had them signed then sold ,made very nice profit. In another pack I got a limited edition Gretzky Hologram card that was sold within 2 weeks for a really nice profit. Other stuff in there was okay. I got most of the Hawks and a few others signed. I know a couple of guys who work for the Org.You see one of them on TV almost every home game.

Baseball you can make money you just have to work at it. Basketball you will never turn a profit from them, you would be lucky to come close to break even.
Stuff like Magic is very hit or miss. Condition of the card is not as important as its rarity. 15 years ago when I got out I sold a complete set of Dragons for over $400 alone. What sucks with Magic is the speed at wich new stuff comes out making stuff useless and therefore garbage. The other thing the do that wreaks card value is make them ineligible for tournament use.
