Te'o begins online relationship with whoever
people ask if he has a girlfriend
he answers yes and has a lie made up about meeting.

Then later he finds out its a hoax and begins to go along.

What about that seems impossible to you?


And I think its foolish to act like you know he was acting "the same" before and after. There is no possible way you or anyone who doesnt interact with him daily could know that.

Once again, it was a friend who did this, who has absolutely nothing to gain from it, who has video on tmz of him hugging Teo, and a girlfriend he never even considered visiting even though he claimed he had met her before.

Once again, he had one or two pictures of her! He had never seen a video of her! He has severed ties with Notre Dame and all of this is being handled by a PR firm. He told reporters at the time of her death to back off and not try and talk to the family or go to the funeral or anything for "privacy".

If this was written as a fiction story people would think it was stupid. However, we are supposed to believe Teo was really a "victim" even though he's been lying for years about this both before he knew of it and after?

There were more lies. He lied about sending flowers. He lied about meeting in Hawaii. He lied about interaction with her family. He lied to reporters by saying that they shouldn't try and contact any of her family for the story.

Also, in the one interview before the game I saw (I avoided all Te'o stuff like the plague BEFORE this came out) he was asked about the girl and gave a very general answer about "losing someone" which is a departure from the detailed accounts of his girlfriend he was giving before.

It goes to show that there is still stigma. I was even surprised the numbers of people who lied were still that high. See some are theorizing that he lied about the online thing because of the stigma.

I know you know that and are not dumb, so are you just being purposely obtuse?

But clearly, you underestimated the stigma some people still apply to online dating.

Well, the story seems to be that someone was having hour long conversations in a women's voice. I think it's just as likely it was a man's voice on there. What would the motive be for the hoaxer to spend thousands of hours pretending to be a woman? That seems really unlikely.

I was pretty surprised those numbers you posted were as low as they were too. In this instance though, Te'o should have admitting he was lying right from the get go. He wouldn't necessarily have to come out of the closet right away, but lies beget lies and now he's in it way too deep. And he might be in it way too deep.
