Hampton and Holmes were the worst. And I don't completely hate Holmes, but oh my God.

I'll also second Chus' North, Maxfield and Huebner.

The Mike Nort Morning Shitfest was an absolute train wreck.

My vote goes to Rosenbloom and Salisbury. That was beyond brutal. Uncle Rico was the trifecta of dumb, out of town, and obnoxious.
Course there's always Chet and the Champ. Wow. Bad.

Tom Shaer was boring. Brutally so. Adding Memelo to the show made it worse.

Bull and Bear was a waste of time.

Shaer was REALLY bad. I don't think a lot of people on the board had the misfortune of hearing the station in the early days. He was very condescending, made a lot of mistakes doing his own updates, and had a lousy sense of humor. Memolo was bad, and then you add Dorothy Humprhey on traffic and general idiotic comments with her nails on a chalkboard voice...Holy Christ.

There have really been a lot of awful shows over the years on both stations.

Anyone remember The Sports Huddle with Tom Green, Steve Olken, and Chris Cross that was on in the evenings? It was bad, they were often pretty dumb, but it was all that was on.

I swear I remember hearing, in the early to mid-90s, David Kaplan and (I think) Jim Kozimor in the evening on AM1000. They did segment called "Stump Us" where someone would call with a trivia question and these two would try to guess the answer. There were times when the call would drag on for 5 or 10 minutes, with the caller giving them 10 or 15 clues until he essentially told them who it was and they finally guessed correctly. Kaplan, in about the David Kaplan-iest thing ever that really encapsulates what a clueless fucking dolt he really is, would then yell "YEAH! YOU CANNOT STUMP US!"

Waddle and Kozimor had a short-lived late morning show on AM1000 that was actually pretty good.

did shaer wind up on CKG? i wanna say i vaguely remember him and thinking he sucked there too. my golden days of radio listening here were between 2004-2007. ESPN actually had a good lineup with middays belonging to dan patrick splitting with jim rome, and then afternoons with MJH. listened to howard in the morning and then switched between kevin matthews and ESPN...never ever listened to the score.

Yes, he was condescending, but in a different way than Bernstein. Shaer would often drop hints about his intelligence ("you can use either 'preventive' or 'preventative', I looked it up"), but I don't remember him having the contempt for his listeners or callers that Bernstein does. Same with Murph...came across as arrogant to some, but never to callers (unless they instigated something).

I never thought Murph was that arrogant. What he did do that was annoying and could be seen as arrogant was the way he always talked over callers and guests with that "UH-HUH, YEAH, RIGHT, RIGHT, UH-HUH, OKAY" stuff, which is the sort of thing you do when you're having a conversation in person to show you're engaged but comes off as domineering and smothering when you're on a radio mic and the other guy is patched in on a telephone at your pleasure. Then again, old Murph always did have trouble knowing that there's a difference between face-to-face and over the phone.

I'll tell you what, Curious, I like your angle! We're gonna make you the Brown's Chicken caller of the show! Get a beef, get a sausage or your buddy Murph's favorite, the combo! You can't go wrong at Brown's! Thanks again Carlton!

I was referencing the Murph bit, not your post. That's why I put it in italics. But your hatred for Peoria is understandable. But I've done OK for myself.

Since you're from Peoria, we'll just attribute it to your meth addiction. :D

I think you can duck hunt around Peoria? I also think I went there to see Van Halen? Or maybe Bloomington in 93ish? Otherwise sorry Matt I don't know what you got there.

Big Al's, Caterpillar, the civic center, the Chiefs, a river, the Gus Macker 3 on 3, and some of the finest high school basketball in the country.

I know VH was in Peoria in the 80's. Yes you can duck hunt in the area.

Leash had a good list. The Macker is gone. We also now have a new Riverfront museum which sucks. The Civic Center is bleeding money. But we do have a new cool little concert venue by my house which has had some great shows with newer bands. Went to the last home Chiefs game last night. Great park and all 16 oz aluminum bottle beers were 3 bucks. Ice cream bars were a buck. Clearing out the inventory. It's slooowly coming around. Still way too much crime and the school system is brutal.

Harry and Spike
Shaer
Bear and the Bull
Huge and Lou
Salisbury and Rosenbloom

The Score basically was a black hole in the mornings before Murph and Fred. Mully and Hanley is easily the best the station has ever had.

I don't include part time, syndicated or occasional weekend work.

Most of you probably never heard Harry and Spike..."Our Bud, Jud" starring Jud Buecheler was one of their signature bits.

I hate Shaer to my very core. I hated him on TV as well.

Sad, but true. I can't stand Murph but i enjoyed Murph and Fred and i think Muly and Hanley is solid.
That being said, the Mike North morning shitfest with Anne Maxfield was easily the worst show i can remember. I'd turn on my radio every morning and give it a listen for a few minutes just in case that was the morning it would come together as a show. Not once was it anything short of an embarassing excuse for a radio show. I am dumber today for having listened.

I trained horses in Trivoli for awhile. When I moved to a bigger barn we shipped down to Florida for the winter. It's a common superstition in racing that it's bad luck to ship brooms. One year we were packing the tack up to head north to Maywood and one of my partners was putting the brooms in the trailer. I asked him what he was doing and explained the superstition. He said, "Where the fuck did you learn that stupid shit? Trivoli? It's bad luck if we have to spend money on new brooms at the Walmart in Northlake when we have perfectly good ones we can throw on the truck."
