I had a friend in high school who went to NIU and was "accidentally" killed by a fellow Evans scholar. The guy was throwing cinder blocks from a 3rd floor balcony at people below and my friend was hit in the head by one. To my knowledge, the guy never did serious time. He copped to involuntary manslaughter and I think he went to one of those prison boot camps for a short time. He's married now and works in finance.
