I dont root for bloodshed but with the old school Miller Lite cans out there and Russia being the bad guy again, I feel like I've gone back in time. It's not a terrible feeling. It's refreshing to have an enemy again that has borders and a political system. This war on terror was too general. I need to have someone to root against.

Notice how the only ones in the West making all this noise are Tea Partiers & mini tough guys like Sen. Lindsey Beauregard Graham, or clueless NewsCorp clowns like Giuliani and Caribou Barbie???

And you can't be that daft to hold up Reagan & "Johnston" as shining examples of Presidents using military force???

Reagan had 230+ Marines killed in a terrorist act, did nothing about it....except to attack the Spice Island of Grenada. He had virtually nothing to do with the fall of the USSR, simple economics and Russian public needs/desires did.

LBJ did nothing but find a fraudulent "reason" to escalate American involvement in Vietnam...leading to tens of thousands of American (& hundreds of thousands/millions of Asian) deaths in a country that has been one of our biggest trading partners & exotic vacation destinations of many Americans for over twenty years.

Chus,

Be prepared to get the requisite " who cares what Jon Stewart thinks!?" from many of the same people who likely watch 24-hour cable news and who think Tucker Carlson is more qualified.

That video shows what fools those people are. People that Chas takes seriously, while he plays army men, and he doesn't bash the president. If somebody really wants to defend any of those idiots in the video, be my guest.

He's also much more intelligent and has a better perspective than 99% of all reporters on mainstream TV.

Are you saying that CNN MSNBC and Fox are more credible simply because Stewart was a comedian by trade?

I don't really care who set the rules. If anyone watches Jon Stewart shred Fox News, as he did in Chus' s video and does on a daily basis, and their first thought is"well, none of that matters. He's just a comedian," I don't know what to tell you. Fox News is embarrassing. Stewart points out the hypocrisy of the media on a nightly basis, and he fills a much - needed role in our ignorant, gullible society. Sometimes the role of court jester gives you a platform to speak the truth that is not present in other, more "serious" roles.

Of course. It's much easier than acknowledging the truth about the people who are spoon feeding you your information.

Right. The fact that a "news" organization is making fun of our president for wearing "mom jeans" while complimenting a Russian dictator is secondary here because Stewart is a "comedian" and therefore anything he ever says should just be ignored.

Who is to blame for that? Who derailed the thread almost immediately?

Me. But I think it was warranted. I was only prompting the inevitable.

How about we start with the one who made that the subject?

I don't think you really understand the complaint. It's not that Stewart should be ignored because he is a comedian. It's that some think he and people like Maher should selectively be ignored because they are comedians.

Did you or did you not say in the other thread that once someone calls themselves a comedian, everything they say from that point forward should be ignored?

I'm not excusing using the comedian label as an excuse, nor am I saying that one should rely solely on the Daily Show for news. But Jon Stewart points out more stupidity and hypocrisy than anyone in media, no matter what he calls himself. To ignore him would be dumb.

As serious political thought, yes.

I just wish he didn't have to play games to protect himself, and that his fans wouldn't fall into it.

Not really. He's a gifted satirist, but you are making him sound more important than he is. Nobody is missing anything substantial by not watching the Daily Show.

For people who are educated, I agree. For young people who don't necessarily see the ridiculousness of TV "news"... I think he's very important. It just shouldn't be their only source of news.

Any my point was that regardless of how one feels of him, you shouldn't ignore the message simply because of the messenger. That's true of anyone, though.

Anybody who relies on tv as their primary source for news is bound to be misinformed, and Stewart is part of the problem. All of them work inside a very small box when it comes to talking politics and Stewart is no different, from the little I have seen. Making fun of Fox News is like shooting fish in a barrel, but it isn't going to give any young viewer a more informed, complex look at the problems within our political landscape. I don't really consider him important at all.

I completely agree. I also think the comedian label doesn't invalidate any serious positions said comedian has. Penn Jillette is a comedian/entertainer and someone who also should be listened to, IMO.

But I don't disagree with the first part. 99% of the media in this country operates within that small box. I think the difference between you and me is that I'm willing to make some concessions for even a little bit of sanity (even if it is still within that small box). From what I've read of your views, you are not. You seem more all or nothing, and that's fine. Perhaps you are more principled than I am. Within the box, and to me, Stewart is one of the most logical ones we have.

Also, look at Fox ' s viewership. It may be easy, but most still don't see it.

I love what Colbert and Stewart do.

Edit: I think it's wrong to dismiss them or try to diminish the importance of what they do.
