"Classified documents presented last week to President Obama and President-elect Trump included allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump...The allegations came, in part, from memos compiled by a former British intelligence operative...The two-page synopsis also included allegations that there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government..."

Nope, merely referencing the existence of contents [like compromising personal and financial information as well as exchanging information during the campaign], not revealing anything at all!

"Compromising information" and "an exchange of information between the campaign and Russia" is not revealing, it is merely descriptive. To deviate from ethics would be to detail the specifics of those allegations even though you've stated you cannot confirm the veracity of those specifics. This is what Buzzfeed did. What you are targeting are mere summaries of information, and if that's your problem, then it wouldn't be possible for any journalist to write on any sort of sensitive material.

No, there are other ways to act unethically as a journalist, or otherwise press the boundaries of ethical behavior. Omission, innuendo, implication, etc. The CNN piece, taken as a complete work, tacitly vouches for the veracity of the allegations in the dossier, and that's at the very least an ethical dilemma, if not an outright unethical implication.

Thanks. So are your 9,000 word analytical treatises on a local Midwestern sports station's part-time updates anchor.

"tacitly vouches for the veracity of the allegations in the dossier" is what you're reading into the article. A more balanced view would be to comprehend that the unspecified allegations originate from this Mi6 guy, who is indeed spoken of positively, but since the allegations cannot be verified, there's no takeaway here regarding veracity.

In looking at the sentence you could technically say he's referring to hotels as "best in the world," right? I'm not sure of the proper grammar terminology to use here but future memes depend on an answer so time is of the essence. What say everyone?

A story came up on Gaw--I mean, Deadspin sub-site The Concourse, and surprise surprise, bullshit published about Trump and his compatriots (like, the completely unfounded allegation/insinuation that Rick Perry didn't know the role of the Dept. of Energy based on an interpretation of a quote from another person) just-so-happens to not be fake news! Nowhere is a definition of "fake news" given, much less an attempt to define it made, but absolutes are spoken ("this is fake news" and "this isn't fake news"), and they all seem to reinforce the point MANY are circling around but just can't find the balls to admit: stories are only "fake news" if they make Hillary/liberals look bad.

http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/how-fa ... 1791389034

I did find this comment exchange pretty interesting, wherein a Jezbian article blatantly misrepresenting a material fact to further an anti-conservative narrative is...not fake news:

Once again, the doctor that Hillary apparently had clipped actually did die, but the statement "Hillary had the doctor clipped" is "fake news" instead of "a statement that has not been properly qualified".

I think you meant Hillary/Democrats look bad.

Even when it's not fake news, the spin is obvious. Trump's inauguration is "clogging" the capitol. Obama's made it "pulse with history". This shit is unconscionable.

This would make a lot more sense if it came from anybody but the Benghazi warrior.

It is going to be a wild ride. Watching the Trumpets twist themselves into knots defending this buffoon is going to be enjoyable.

Donald Trump Plagiarized Bane in His Inaugural Speech

Quote:
Donald Trump officially became president today, and in an inaugural address he promised many things, some of which may sound familiar, because they were directly lifted from the D.C. comics villain Bane.

Compare Trump’s declaration that, “Today’s ceremony, however has very special meaning. Because today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another. But we are transferring power from Washington D.C. and giving it back to you... the people. For too long a small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have born the cost."

...

Sound familiar? Declareth the cartoon Batman villain: “We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you... the people."

No connection to the movie script aside from "back to the people" a phrase which can be found in all manner of political speeches and calls to action. Yet that doesn't stop two instances of an explicit allegation of plagiarism ("plagiarism" said outright in the title, and "because it was directly lifted from..." in the body of the article). This is fake news that won't be called fake news. Why, oh why, could that be?

There was a story during the Inauguration about Women's Initaitives page on the White House website being removed.

No mention of the fact that every page was down for transition.

If we keep saying Trump is "unprecedented" maybe it will become true. Granted, his speech had a somewhat negative tone and he talked about stuff he believes needs fixing rather than the standard upbeat "shining city on a hill" stuff that is de rigueur, but when Obama talked about "hope and change" wasn't that a criticism of what had come before? It's pretty much a suggestion that before him we were hopeless and a lot of bad shit needs to change. That's exactly the same thing Trump said albeit in a less polished way.

And attacking a news organization? Also "unprecedented!"

This isn't a complaint because I don't give a shit what he said in his inauguration speech, but there's so much irony in all that he says, and yesterday was no different...

The juxtaposition of his democratic message that the power is coming "back to the people" with his monarchic message that he "will never, ever let you down" could, in the correct context and with the right person delivering the message, inspire a message of unity with Trump simply leading the way. But with Trump, it just comes off as contradictory and narcissistic, in my subjective interpretation. I'm sure any potential irony would be lost on him.

Again, it's not a complaint, and I wouldn't care, anyway. Just an observation.
