Just drove back home in OL here from Flossmoor. I have never driven in rain that hard before.

Yeah it was nasty -- Homewood turned on the tornado siren after 95% of it had already passed by.

warnings here in elmhurst are telling me to unplug everything and seek shelter. so i'm sitting here next to the sliding glass door, on the laptop, waiting for the storm to roll in.

Already panicking for winter;

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/02/14182155-winter-storms-to-be-named-by-weather-channel?lite
Quote:
During the upcoming 2012-13 winter season, The Weather Channel will name noteworthy winter storms. Our goal is to better communicate the threat and the timing of the significant impacts that accompany these events. The fact is, a storm with a name is easier to follow, which will mean fewer surprises and more preparation.

Hurricanes and tropical storms have been given names since the 1940s. In the late 1800s, tropical systems near Australia were named as well. Weather systems, including winter storms, have been named in Europe since the 1950s. Important dividends have resulted from attaching names to these storms:

-Naming a storm raises awareness.
-Attaching a name makes it much easier to follow a weather system’s progress.
-A storm with a name takes on a personality all its own, which adds to awareness.
-In today’s social media world, a name makes it much easier to reference in communication.
-A named storm is easier to remember and refer to in the future.

The giant pile of salt had no comment at this time

February 2011's storm could be called "Morons on Lake Shore"

We are supposed to have our last family camping trip of the year this weekend in Door County. The forecast is lows in the 30's all weekend. The kids still want to go, but it's easy to say that from the living room.

Attending the Pumpkin Cup (for 3rd-5th grade boys soccer) -- a bit wet out there. The head official's stopwatch became too saturated to function.

Just did 18 holes of golf. Was dry until about the 13th, really started pouring on the 15th and 16th. Despite that, shot pretty well! Though, an 8 on a par 3 cannot be blamed on the weather.

Got home and in bed before the wig got wet. Looks like the fun stuff will be over night.

Some beastly cells following 88 east. Its about to slam Batavia/St. Charles and then another cell looks to be in Aurora and into Naperville.

We're all gonna die. Hail was just smashing my house at a 45 degree angle. Woke up the kids, and brought them downstairs.

St. Charles? Naperville?

They won't get wet, the pedestals they currently stand on rise far, far above the storm clouds.
