The spin off is a near term driver. I believe it happens on 11/1. Once that stock is distributed, we should see a move up. In the interim I have been surprised at the reaction to earnings.

Going to dip into IBM today. It is dropping quite a bit for a big cap in premarket based on weaker than expected revenues. But is has been cleaning up the balance sheet and sports a nearly 5% dividend yield. In addition, it is spinning off one of its business to shareholders of record on 10/25. Spin-offs almost always take off after being separated. You get one share in the business for every five of IBM owned.

I hope to get in below $135/share.

Alright, I grabbed some at $130.

Me too. Let's ride the Deni$$ Money Train!

The early returns are...not good.

But, I'm a long-term guy. I have time to wait it out.

It's IBM. We'll be fine.

In my experience when someone says “we’ll be fine”, what they mean is

“I know I will be fine, and you will likely most probably be fine, but I will definitely be fine”

I'm surprised three of the smartest guys on the board dove into IBM. That stock has been roughly flat for a decade. Watson was a bust, and in order to not cannibalize their hardware business they were late to the cloud. They ceded that business to AMZN, MSFT and Google. IBM won't catch up. (And their hybrid-cloud ads are just stupid, ALL clouds are hybrid--there is nothing unique to IBM's).

The business they are spinning off is their Global Technology Services business--an outsourcer for data center management. As companies move to the cloud, they don't need this service, thus it's shrinking. So your spin-off shares will be in a shrinking business.

The remainder of IBM is still largely fueled by their mainframe refresh cycle. Financial Services companies still largely run IBM mainframes, and when IBM releases a new version, there is a big uptick in their business. That's likely built into the valuation, as it's a known cycle.

I guess if you guys are looking for some sort of "pop" on the divestiture, it's possible. And as Denis states, the dividend is healthy. But IBM isn't going on a high growth track anytime soon.

Since 10/21 when Denis posted the "buy" recommendation, IBM is down about 2%. MSFT is up 4.2%. Short timeframe, but still, IBM is legacy technology.

Not bad for an old man like me. I'm not sure what young bucks like Denn$$ and Doc are doing. They should be getting fat with SHIB.

I have a certain amount of what the hell stocks. I had two I thought would pop and they didn’t.

So I sold those and grabbed some.

I don’t have enough to be invited to the board meeting.

Oddly, i just checked. I never closed because why... Well, at $400!! It pays to hold.

Did I miss the post where you said don't buy IBM, buy Tesla, that day?

Next time you have a stock suggestion, I'll consider buying it if the narrative sounds intriguing.

Either way, I'll still be able to buy food despite my massive IBM losses. It's up a buck today.

RAMEN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!

Because IBM actually offers a product that works. Tesla is an expensive car with mismatched doors and poor service options. But you're probably too busy pumping and dumping Shiba Inu coins to notice. Stop going for the easy buck and start producing something with your life.

That's loser talk! Now if you don't mind I'm going back to imagining Tesla announcing a 10-1 stock split.

How do you buy IBM but not PTLO?

The Chicago people here must have something against Portillo's. To them, it's not authentic Chicago enough.
