Somebody told me they were having a lot of problems with imposter syndrome. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard/seen:

Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome) is a concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud".

I've never heard that name, but the underlying issues certainly aren't new. Openly complaining about it and using it as a crutch is pretty pathetic though in my book.

I have to fire a woman that we pay to come and clean our house this afternoon. It shouldn't come as a big surprise to her as I threatened to let her
go by end of the year based on a number of factors but she has no idea I am doing it today. Never had to do it before and I am not looking forward
to it much, especially right before the holidays.

Fire her for what? Did she refuse your offer to dust your nutsack?

I just want my house key back, pay her for her work today and wish her good luck.

I know where you're coming from, Reader--I think we're both kind of old-school, hardcore guys--but this is something that a lot of graduate students, particularly women and people of color, struggle with due to cultural forces that tend to devalue their perspectives and experiences. It's a real issue.

Give her a cashmere sweater at least.

Well that went about as smoothly as I could have hoped. I got there when she was finishing up and told her that I had her check and that I needed my house
key back. Thanked her for her efforts this year and wished her a happy holiday. She never asked why or anything. Packed up her van and she was gone.

Change the locks, or the place will be cleared out by the time you get back home from work.

Maybe, but I doubt it. I let the dog out of the kennel and he went up to the window and was barking and hitting the window like a wild animal while she put her stuff in
the van. She is afraid of dogs, and I figured a little reminder about who patrols during the day wouldn't hurt.

Not to be a Douche but I could disable your doggy security system in about 2 seconds.
I mean, a dog is nothing that a pipe wrench can't fix.

I'm not saying I'd hurt an animal... or have to since I won't be breaking into any houses anytime soon...
I'm Just saying someone that's going to rob your house won't be intimidated by your dog. They'll kill it and get on with their business. I worked in home security long enough to know this isn't uncommon. Perhaps one of our cop posters can lend their opinion.

Classier move would have been to give her a Christmas Present or a gift card as a shove-off present or something.

That's fair. Fortunately I have nothing worth stealing. The dog is there as a family pet first, but does a great job letting us know if anyone is near our property when we are there.
