Thanks BigW. A lot of what you said resonates with our situation. At 25 we hoped she would have some of this figured out but believe there is a mental illness component involved in which we have to step back and really think about the best way to make this situation better and as permanent as we can make it.

Might be a mental illness component, but I really hate using that as it's an overused generational excuse and mentality. I don't know where the Y2K babies formed their internal motivation, but a good majority of them have zero motivation to get out on their own. It's puzzling. When I was 22, the thought of living at home was horrifying. I graduated from college and spent all of 2 weeks at home before I packed my shit and figured something else out. It wasn't even a thing of my Dad and I not getting along....I just flat out didn't want to live at home. I was flat broke, but at least I didn't have to answer to anyone.

That drive is sorely missing.

3 days after I graduated from college, I moved 620 miles to Wisconsin.

That sucks Hawg, I am sorry.

Look at it this way, Arkansas to Wisconsin is a tremendous upgrade.

Have you considered moving back south somewhere Hawger? Not sure if your son is still in school or any other factors holding you back.

Not really, I have been here so long now, and I just don't want to move. Moving is the worst.

i love how when you buy something w/ a credit card, the amount is applied immediately. When you get a credit of some kind, it takes forever .

Sounds like you have plenty of room for both a brother in law and a collection of baseball cards.

I got a new hire I'm teaching the trade to. He's 20. He doesn't know much about the trade. I'm working with a block of clay here. Had him for almost 2 weeks.
Today we were running calls. I had him doing the heavy lifting while I watched him closely.
We finished a call and got sent out to a call about 40 minutes away. He's riding in my truck. So he says "hey so you like answering questions, and are mind of a science guy right? I got a weird one for you."
"OK. Hit me."
"Do you believe in Jesus Christ and in His Resurrection?"

It is not relevant to his learning the trade, my teaching of the trade, or the concerns of the customer we were on our way to service.

Sounds like a comic setup to end the relationship. Comic as in sitcom setup.

So while riding in your truck to a job, you refuse to entertain conversation that doesn’t involve your trade or the concerns of your customer?

Correct. I'm paid to teach the trade. The drive time between calls is designated as time to discuss the previous call and the mistakes made (or correct diagnostics performed) and the next call (while we discuss what the issues could be, how any issue would present) and the apprentice is to review any available previous diagnostic history available in the system and apply that data at the call we've been dispatched to.

Oh... and I've yet to meet a customer who had no heat or no cooling who was concerned about my thoughts of the Resurrection of Christ.

Antioch, I must say though, that I do appreciate your attempts to make me sound like the asshole for not wishing to discuss religion with a new hire while I am in a position of authority where I determine whether or not to initiate him into the union.

You’re welcome.

I think you can at least tease it out without exercising that authority. A guy that age isn’t asking that type of question because he cares about what you think. He wants to say what he thinks.

Idk, I’m not intentionally being an ass but people so rarely show you who they are - particularly young people. I’ll typically air on the side of giving them room to say what they want.
