Contact them and offer to pay for a new laptop. That's your only move here really.

Also if you fuck someone like they are a millionaire they might go try to be one.

Thanks for all your replies. Rereading my initial post I was not as clear as I wanted. But I/we have every intention of making the situation right.

My daughter has talked to the family. They are taking it to a friend of theirs who repairs computers. When they find out the cost she is going to pay for it. If it cannot be repaired we will figure things out from there. It is a Macbook Air.
