And when and I suppose, if, it fails does this end the myth that Paul Ryan is a "policy wonk"?

Then democrats should be happy. It lives another day. It confuses me when the left cheers the right's inability to repeal this thing. They should cheer that it survived.

I think the cheering has more to do with that they have been promising this for so long and ulitimately at least for now they can't repeal it.

Obamacare was designed to be virtually impossible to repeal. I just wish the Republicans had been smarter about lessening the impact of repealing it.

Yep, it was a poison pill. For whatever reason, the Republicans didn't feel that they could admit it.

Hopefully, the few adults left in the GOP room will figure out how to make some constructive improvements, such as trying to limit the ability of insurance companies to inflate the cash non-insurance price which doctors and medical centers charge, and letting some of the bigger medical practices set up their own cost-certainty plans for routine illnesses. [In Chicago, I'm thinking about Advocate, North Shore, DuPage Medical Group, etc.]

Or even that being a "policy wonk" is a good thing in and of itself, even in service of terrible policy. COUGH COUGH VOX.COM

Politics > People

They've "worked" so hard to repeal that they have no choice but to repeal, even if it means making things worse.

So the GOP made changes in an attempt to secure more votes.

The plan now covers even less people while simultaneously costing more.

Well played, GOP...

how can so many constituents not understand what is going on? the far right republicans dont care about anything except winning their piss fit against the democrats. they dont care if repealing obamacare means setting the oceans on fire, as long as they can claim 'we repealed obamacare' then everything is ok.

theyre exposing themselves. they are so fucking stupid it is hilarious. anyone that thinks it takes a substantial person to be a congressman is not very bright themselves.

its just stupidity. when i was growing up it wasnt like this. they might have SAID they were going to repeal a law, but when they got the power to they quietly forgot about it and just moved onto other things.

Ike the reason I assume why they have such a hard on to repeal and "fuck" this up is the way it was passed. I feel some think the rage is against Obama but I disagree. I think most are really mad about how the Dem congress shoved this right up everyone's ass. Those Rep congress people did not forget it and will not move on.

Vote Friday morning. If it fails, Trump says he'll abandon plan to repeal and leave Obamacare in place.

Sounds like he realized it's better to have it as something to complain about than to try and do better.

Trump said as much in his first interview with ABC. He said they should just let the Dems keep owning it's he felt it was unraveling anyway.

Well, it kind of is. I've heard people argue it was designed to fail en route to true Medicare for all, but that's giving the Dems too much credit. They probably just wrote shitty policy -- hell, they stole it from Republicans in the first place.

I hope Paul Ryan is visited by the ghost of Lyndon Johnson, but instead of taking Ryan to a past, present, and future without healthcare, he just whips his dick out and says "betcha never seen one like this before, boy, you're not takin' no Medicare away from ol' Jumbo here."

Might have been the plan all along...propose something you know won't pass, and let Obamacare die under its own weight.

Out of curiosity I wondered what would be the BIG STORY on foxnews tonight. Of course the pencil necked Tucker Carlson has worked himself into a convenient lather about an illegal immigrant that is a rape suspect.

I expected nothing more than for them to do anything other than go back to the "blame the coloreds" tack while ignoring the big story.

And here's Ann Coulter in equine support. Giddyap!

Why wouldn't you, I don't know, just fix what's wrong with Obamacare? They could even work their own name into the legislation...

Even the guy spending millions on dressage and a car elevator once wondered this as well

It is if insurers keep pulling out...there comes a point where it is impossible to raise rates further, and even at sky-high rates they are getting crushed.

Obamacare, as currently constructed, is unsustainable and will have to be reformed.

This is a pretty stupid question, but I'm a pretty stupid poster, while this repeal is in limbo..is ACA still active? I thought I read you couldn't sign up on ACA registries anymore?

The open enrollment period is only active for a short window each year (November thru January). After that the only way you can sign up (until the next open enrollment period) is if you have a special "life event" like getting married, having a kid, etc.

Does anyone know what exactly is wrong with Obamacare? From what I read, the insurers bailed on it only because Little Marco Rubio managed to get rid of the "risk corrdors" which reimbursed them for losses in the first several years.

Simply put, Obamacare covers too much for what it takes in. Eliminating lifetime caps and pre-existing condition restrictions, and mandating a whole bunch of other coverages made it impossible for insurance companies to make money unless young healthy people signed up in droves (and even if they had, the results may have been the same). Since the penalty for not signing up was basically non-existent, the risk pool was skewed toward the sick and old, and insurance companies started losing money and jacking up everyone's rates, which still didn't stem the losses. The government promised to reimburse those losses initially but that wasn't going to continue forever.
