Hypothetical Dolph Schayes is now an answer.

The game looks entirely different than it did 10 years ago, let alone 40 years ago. His skill set from his time doesn't translate to today.

I don't know about that. A guy who can shoot can play in any era. I'm gonna say he'd be pretty much like Kevin Love if he played today. Probably a better shooter.

To take it a step further, Jordan isn't really that great. Because he played thirty years ago and was just dominating guys with shitty skills sets. Am I doing it right?

You’re doing something I don’t do. You struggle in these debates because I don’t fit your caricature of the “modern fan”.

Zero chance Schayes would be the shooter Love is today. It’s an absurd suggestion. Notice how in all those clips he’s not being defended on the perimeter one single time. Any above average wing defender would eat him alive.

That's just claptrap. You have no idea what he would do with a defender trying to guard him. The guy was a great shooter. I'm sure he'd be a great shooter in anyone's league at any time.

But it's hard to criticize the way the game was played 40 years ago without taking down some sacred cows. If you're going to make such arguments you're going to have to deal with that.

I’m comfortable make an assessment on a player by player basis. You can’t criticize those who generalie generations of athletes then recommend doing just that.

And no, it’s not claptrap. That’s why you didn’t even have a rebuttal. Players didn’t guard him while shooting! You’re just being dishonest if you think that can’t be taken into consideration when putting him in today’s era.

That's nonsense. As if defense started with Detroit's Bad Boys. Today's players are so much more "athletic" yet they score 160 a game in $500 shoes while Dolph Schayes and company were running up and back to the tune of about 240 points per game in shoes with no arches and without a three point shot.

That was just highlights of Dolph's sweet stroke.
