Another thing that has gotten under my skin this spring/summer is my next door neighbor. I have lived
next door for 5 years and I have always mowed a shared strip of grass between our houses. It is really just an extra two passes with
the mower and at least I can keep it looking uniform. I cut my grass 2-3 times a week and he does it maybe once a week if that. This
year he has decided that those two strips are going to be his so he has been cutting them. Not a huge deal but it makes that strip between
us look really stupid when my grass is always short and his two strips are long. I am pretty sure he is trying to draw a line in the sand that
it is actually his property line ( which may very well be true ). We had an incident last fall between my dog and him and his dogs and so
I think that might be playing into it some. I'd talk to him about it but he is essentially a hermit and doesn't really talk so I am just leaving it
alone.

This reminds me of another one of my cranky old friends. This guy lives in a building his grandfather bought in 1956 (j/k, I think he actually bought it in the 40s). He has his ideas about what everyone else should do. Much of his neighborhood has become Mexican over the years, and though he would deny it, when he complains he sounds like a bigot. He can't grasp that his idea of what looks "nice" isn't the same as everyone else's. This friend annoys the fuck out of me sometimes. I think that's what set me off on Rand Paul because guys criticizing him sound like this friend of mine.

Anyway, the gangway between his house and his neighbor's is only 1/4 his and the other 3/4 is his neighbor's. Over the years dating back to his grandparents, his family had maintained the gangway the way they wanted. Well, his neighbor ran a mower through there- on her property, mind you- and my friend went apeshit. "She killed my hostas! Everything looked so beautiful but she destroyed it for no reason!" Yet this guy is so property oriented he would never countenance anyone telling him what to do on his land.

Some people don't care about their lawns the way you do. It's probably best not to get worked up over it. When I was a kid in Sauganash, if someone failed to cut his lawn for ten days, it was like they wanted to form a posse and storm his house.

Yeah, like I mentioned it really takes a lot for me to get angry about anything, it more annoyance. As I said earlier, I'm letting it go since it really
is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. He's just a poor old man and he isn't really hurting anything, I just found it strange that he decided
to reclaim the land this year. I do believe that it was a combination of what happened last year and he also has a live in male friend who I am pretty
sure has been giving him some ideas about how he should protect his property line. I realize I care too much about my own lawn but that is what I
should be concerned with and not what someone else is doing. It doesn't reflect poorly on me if his yard doesn't look the same as mine.

when tv sports broadcasters refer to a player as an all-America as opposed to an all-American.

Fucking hate that.

when people put the 13.1 sticker on the back of their car. I want to pull up and ask them if they are ever planning to go out and finish the other half? Then spit on them through the window.

I was just reminded of my anger inflamer...people who "reply to all" to a company wide email. I don't care that you will attend a sponsored event. And I especially don't care about the 20 others who follow your lead.

On a somewhat related note - I irrationally hate group texts started by someone attaching what they believe to be funny or cute picture. Each subsequent "bing" on my phone raises my blood pressure a notch.

When people take more than 10 seconds to order at the McDonald's Drive Thru. It's McDonalds, you should be able to recite your order in your sleep and you sure as shit don't need to look at a menu.

There's a furniture store near me that is constantly putting signs in the ground up and down Route 59. One week it's "Liquidation!" -- The next week it's "Must Sell!" -- Then it's "Going out of Business!". And yet they are still in business and apparently this type of fake-distress marketing works for them. I feel like firebombing the store and actually putting them out of business for good.

I recommend standing out there with your own sign saying that the company is actually flourishing.

By the way, what is with these retail stores having people stand on corners holdings going out of business sale signs? Now Carson's is doing it. Can't they just stick the sign in the ground? I mean I am glad they are giving someone a job, but it just seems like a terrible career choice to be pitching for a closing store for a week.

Next time you're going down Hinman, there's a big house, I think in the 1000 block, that has a "natural" prairie as the front lawn. I'm guess some high end North Shore landscaper charged about $30,000 to create it. I can just hear my old man complaining about how terrible it looks if the guy were his next door neighbor.

Funny thing is this year, I'm working really hard to get my lawn to seed naturally - we've had a few dry years, and there are some rough patches thanks to an odd layout that doesn't necessarily retain water evenly (lots of weird hills in my yard). My neighbor (who has a weekly landscaper) asks me daily when I'm going to mow again (I just did it last week)...drives me up a wall. He also gets pissy when I'm out there at 8-8:30 on a weekend morning to cut. Whatever.

I think there are a lot of guys like this, and it gets worse with age/retirement. My neighbor mows like every three days, and I'm sure he thinks I don't mow enough. His grass is fucking dead because he mows it so much. I think he also gets offended when I have my guy Hernandez come mow occasionally when I can't get to it. Weird old fuckers
Hernandez huh? Does he also replace the lawn jockey after he mows or does he just mow around it ?

Both.

Seriously though, Hernandez is one of the most professional people I've ever done business with. I don't even remember how we got his number (actually, it's some woman's number who coordinates for him).

He literally only goes by Hernandez, doesn't speak English, and is probably illegal, but he is one professional motherfucker. We hired him a few times at our old house, so when we moved we texted once to see if he would do our new house. He was there the next day. We have a pretty cut up yard and a couple fence gates, so usually when you have someone come out to do work or give a quote for something, they have a million questions. Not Hernandez. When he showed up, I went to greet him and give him a rundown of what I needed. Fucker waved me off and blew right by me on his zero turn. 30 minutes and $25 later, the yard looked perfect. Did the edges and bagged everything too. He's the Bill Brasky of lawn care.

My wife loves that garden.

Hostas are the quintessential Chicago gangway/sideyard foliage, along with Lily of the Valley.

A friend of mine owns a Jewelry store in Northbrook. Another friend of mine does his ad work. Over the past month he's had 2 of those people on the street holding signs. I asked my ad buddy about that and he says those people get paid $20 for every person who comes in and buys something and says the reason they came in was because of the sign. Doesn't seem like a very profitable occupation.

I don't listen to local radio so I don't have to hear that shit anymore, but on Sirius the NBA Tickets guy is just as bad.

The Andersons got tickets to the game, how'd they get tickets to the game.

I want to punch that guy so hard.
