where's the best gas at a bbq station you've been to?

They do have a pretty good 92 octane there at Joe's.

This deserved recognition.

Kansas is really nice. This neighborhood were driving thru to get to the restaurant is very nice.

My BIL tells me I guess this is like the tech center of this area.

Ya but not this weekend probably next Monday. Me
And my son going to drive - one
Day trip.

Just as well...you don't want to be down there on the 4th of July weekend. It is by far the craziest time of year at the lake.

I'm not sure what you're looking to do but I would suggest starting at Willmore Lodge. It's a cool old log lodge which is now a tourist center with a nice display that details the history of the lake. There's also some pretty decent views from there. You can then pop by the adjacent scenic overlook to check out the dam and the Osage River. Drive across the dam and you're on "the old strip" - parts of which are shown at the beginning of the show "Ozark". I'm guessing the nostalgia aspect of this area (lots of 50's era attractions) will be appealing to you.

If you have time you might head to Ha Ha Tonka State Park which is very peaceful and has what is billed as a castle ruin (actually a remnants of an old stone mansion) to explore and again some nice views.

If you want to dine outside overlooking the lake "Backwater Jacks" (that was the place shown all over TV on Memorial Day) actually has some good food, same with "Dog Days", "Redhead Yacht Club" and "Shorty Pants". If you want something indoors and a little nicer "JB Hooks" has a great cliffside view overlooking the lake.

Ok Jacks was good and decent but not the best ever. Still good. Had baby backs. But the sides were incredible! Best cole slaw I’ve ever had.

Lot of young kids flaunting the no mask here in mizzou. Swimming Pool of young adults full. Youngins walking in packs of 5,6,7 no mask no social distancing. Incredible! And Scary!

No wonder It’s spiking.

BUT

Then again if I was a youngin I’d do the same.

Off to the NLM!

Museum day was good. I felt a bit rushed both places by our hosts as they have no interest in history or baseball. But I’m glad we went.

Thinking of driving to Columbia Sunday so we can cut the trip to the Lake a bit. Maybe get in Sunday afternoon and spend the night before leaving early Monday morning

College town so thinking it’ll be fun to visit for a night.

Yep. And that museum is next to the Jazz Hall of Fame. It has some nice things in it also.

man it was really fun today. just did 4th of july w/ my sisters family and bbq. I really like how peaceful things are here. My son even talked about maybe looking into a job here in Kansas. Maybe if he does that I ll move out here. KC burbs aren't too bad.

only thing that is surprising is people are not as friendly as i thought they would be. but could be the current political climate and covid.

That's kind of silly. Bald eagles have wings and can fly, why would they drive?

Yes, it's good but I didn't ever feel the need to return. But I prefer divier places in general. For a sit down dinner, Q39 is as good if not better than Jack Stack.

Can you stick your head into a hot BBQ grill?

Summer plans include another trip to KC. We've done Jack Stack's (Freight House by Union Station) Joe's, and Arthur Bryant's. Anywhere else besides Q39 that needs to make it on the list? We've done WWI Museum, Boulevard Brewing Tour, and Negro League/Jazz Museum.

I did the WW1 Museum as well. That was really great. I also saw a comedy show --- Robert Kelly happened to be in town. I'm not sure what else you can explore. I just know Q39 is the shit. Some may say it's boujie, but the apps are $13 a piece and they're filling. However, every bbq place specializes in certain things (ribs, brisket, etc). Everyone in Kansas City has a different answer --- but my research concluded that Q39 chicken wings, pork belly w/mexican street corn, sausage, and baked beans w/ burnt ends (plus a few cosmic IPAs) is the best in Kansas City. It was heaven.
