Trick question. Brick is currently an 83 year old man!

The US government could crush crypto in 5 minutes if they wanted. Ban all US companies from accepting non-approved payment methods. Crypto has very little value if you can't use it to buy or sell anything. Maybe you could transfer it out at a currency exchange like you can a Euro.

I don't think they will because it doesn't really make sense to limit it.

  It's a lot more likely that cryptocurrency will crush the U.S. government- and other governments- than vice versa.

I’d think it’s far more likely central banks introduce their own digital currencies. Sweden is already experimenting. China announced its version last month.

The US will probably fuck around for another 10yrs debating whose face to put on the digital wallet login, but it’ll get here eventually.

I think that will definitely happen. But it eliminates the most important feature of Bitcoin. That's just a U.S. Dollar in a different format. Makes stimulus payments easy though. One press of a button and President Chelsea Clinton can load $1400 onto everyone's wallet.

depends on what you mean by a "dollar". we'll likely to be using something called a "dollar" but
in the same way that the dollars of 1921 had a different character and nature than the dollars of 1951 and 1971...odds are the dollars of 20(4/5/6/7)1 will be different creatures than our dollars today.

China is currently buying up gold, and backing their currency with it.

Bitcoin isn’t really viable as a currency though, given the issues around settling transactions and where it’s at in terms of mining.

Not sure if you’re referring to lack of govt involvement or anonymity as the most important feature...it’s hard for me to imagine a situation where nation states continue to exist yet have no control over the currencies used in their economies.

Great store of value that gets obliterated by a single dude tweeting about it. Anyways I am here to pump Matic. Shit has held up well despite the broader pull back.

You're just like Munger and Buffett. You can't really fathom a world where there isn't U.S. hegemony and the United States isn't setting the economic paradigm that most of the world lives under. It seems clear to me that that paradigm is coming to an end and probably sooner rather than later. What will replace it, I'm not sure. But I don't put a lot of stock in U.S. greenbacks.

So, in what year should I expect US currency to no longer be relevant?

I'm sure most of the recent drop has been due to Musk, but I wonder if there's also a sense that more governments will ban crypto due to its use in ransomware attacks.

I can't give you an exact date, but I care about you and I don't want you to become destitute so I would advise spreading your risk out a bit.

It wouldn't shock me to learn that the CIA is behind a bunch of these coins.

I'm betting Bitcoin bans governments before governments ban Bitcoin. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

I've seen this in a few places, what is the endgame? I doubt retail traders are propping these coins up.

I don't think you can ban crypto; it's just code and code arguably--even beyond arguably-- is protected speech under the first amendment. You can tell people not to use code to do things, I suppose. Banning alcohol went south quickly for the U.S. government and that required stills and such to manufacture. Absent spying on the internet activity of every American 24/7 and banning VPN's and encrypted traffic AND getting every other nation on Earth to implement similar crypto lockdowns-- banning crypto's holding back a tidal wave with a broom.

Besides, blockchain technology's way too useful for the government not to embrace it. The currency play is one of many use cases for blockchain.

Dead easy to end ransomware attacks on government facilities: ban government agencies from using the Windows operating system.

I’d think it’s far more likely central banks introduce their own digital currencies. Sweden is already experimenting. China announced its version last month.

It would be best of both worlds. Everyone would have a digital wallet, secured by your identity. Right now, if you have a digital wallet and lose it, you cant go somewhere and say 'hey its me, give it to me'.

Elon Musk Timeline on Bitcoin

BTC at $60,000:

Tesla will accept payment for cars in Bitcoin. Company announces it has purchased $1 bil. in Bitcoin.

BTC at $45,000:

Tesla will no longer be accepting payments in Bitcoin. BTC is bad for the environment because of excessive power usage. Company has not sold BTC, but is considering its options.

I also find it funny that Ethan Allen furniture (ticker = ETH) is shooting up as people confuse it with Ethereum.

BTC looks to test 40k. Feels like bottom could fall out if it crosses that threshold.

That type of intuition in why he increased his net worth by tens of billions of dollars while MANY Americans were going to food pantries.

It's fucking criminal and ANOTHER sign that the system is rigged for the elite. The people that we worship. Will Robinhood and others step in and stop the decline to help retail investors?

He worked hard to get that foreknowledge. Maybe if you worked harder you could do the same.
