You say this over and over, and its 100% wrong. The lax climate was not created by a lack of dress code. It was created by the airlines themselves who seem to treat their operation more like cattle herding in than anything else. I understand that they are a business and have to turn a profit, but when they treat people without any care or respect then that is what you are going to get out of your passengers.

Why do you think appropriate dress exists at all? Why don't you tell your boss you feel more comfortable in pajamas.

Anyway, I don't see how acting like a savage on a plane is revenge on the airline executives you are complaining about.

It is interesting how dress standards have changed. As I read through this thread, I recalled that the Three Stooges did the majority of that show in suits. I always thought it was strange for a slapstick comedy show to have its stars doing the show all dressed up. Today, they would be wearing "Who farted" t-shirts.

This is a solid point. I have never worked in an office that requires a sport coat. Why is that?

But you agree that there is an appropriate level of dress in your office. Obviously you believe in some standard. With regard to commercial flight, we're simply in disagreement on what that standard should be. If your standard is whatever doesn't bother anyone else, then you must have no objection to someone flying in just a jockstrap. Maybe he can recline his balls on your face.

Graduations, weddings, funerals, job interviews(maybe).

Who is forcing you? Why not just stick with the same philosophy you use on airlines? Come to that wedding or funeral in shorts and gym shoes. Who does it bother? Do you feel peer pressure at to dress a certain way at these events?

I'm not defending the true extremes like someone wearing a jock strap. I'm saying that dressing like a normal person does in normal life isn't a problem.

As I said, I understand that certain special occasions call for a unique dress code. It just shouldn't be extended to mundane every day things.

I'm not on-board with the strict fashion guidelines such as JORR subscribes to, but there are some things out there that need to removed from society yesterday. People who wear sweatpants in public should be taken out back and shot.

I would drape myself in velvet, if it was socially acceptable.

Not long ago "normal" people didn't dress like savages on commercial airliners. We're on a slippery slope toward jockstraps.

Well, I'd be fine if dress codes were relaxed for those events above. I just understand why special occasions are different. Flying is not a special occasion.

Suits, ties, coats, and fedoras used be worn at MLB games and the horsetrack too, but I guess its OK for Joe Orr to dress like a savage at the ballpark.

It has nothing to do with manners. Wearing shorts, a shirt, and gym shoes should not be offensive to anyone. And if it is, fuck that person. Problem is with them. It's not our responsibility to make sure those around us aren't offended by stupid shit.

Don't you think the guy wearing a suit is more likely to respect the game and the fans around him, more than the guy who is in flip flops and shorts taunting the other team, Joe Orr?

Pajamas and sweatpants are bad enough. That's the point. You draw the line at jockstraps. I just draw it a little higher. I'm not requesting that Frank wear his tuxedo, although it would be fine if he did and certainly more respectful than dressing like a homeless bum.

Maybe not for a big wig engineer like you. But flying is still special for a lot of people. Sadly, most of them treat it like they are reclining on their couches.

Why do you think you get to speak for others on what they should and shouldn't find offensive? Ditka doesn't think anyone should find "Redskins" offensive. That opinion is just as valid as what you just typed. And it's a recipe for a shit society, if you could call it a society at all. I'm gonna do what I want and if you don't like it, FUCK YOU! It's your problem.

Sure. I doubt Ligue would have attacked a coach if he had been dressed like a civilized human. The thing is I'm not trapped in a confined area for hours with the Ligues.

Ha! You're the same guy that agreed with us before on the dangers of a society where everybody gets to decide for themselves what's offensive and forcing the rest of society to act accordingly. So WYC Joe?

I'm not speaking for others here, just myself. I'm not telling you to not be offended by someone wearing shorts and a t shirt. I'm saying you deserve to be laughed at and mocked for that type of silly thought. Just like I would mock someone who is "offended" by gay marriage. Be offended by whatever you want, just don't expect others to change their behavior if they aren't actually doing anything wrong.

There are few things that offend me. I'm not offended by shorts and a t-shirt on a plane. I just think it coarsens what is already an unpleasant experience.

I'm drawing the line at what is just normal. I don't see many guys dressed in jock straps at my local Subway. I do see plenty in shorts and a t-shirt.

Flying is not a special occasion. It's a mode of transportation. I fly more often than I ride a bus.
