Thinking about this for a second......BRick and JORR could reasonably be compared to your current wife and ex-wife. You ex-wife is suing you for more alimony and telling your kids what a jerk you are. After you deflect her mighty attacks, then your current wife holds back on yum yums and runs up large credit card bills. The looks that your mother and sister in laws give you are hardy evidence that your wife is bad mouthing you. I don't think any team should do a 5 year rebuild in a major market.

However, I think the Cubs have a much better chance of future championships than the White Sox. You put pretty much everyone on an even playing field. If anything, it is the fact that the Sox have been rebuilding at most for 2 years(and since they tried to win both years, we know they actually haven't even been rebuilding).

Is this thread asking if we think the Cubs will win a World Series under Theo or whether we think it is reasonable to ask fans to not compete for many years before being competitive? If it's the former, I'd like to change my vote.

I said I think it will work. I don't think it's reasonable or necessary to suck for 5 years, but I think they're better off for doing it.

I actually do like the idea of getting actual talent into the organization. If that required 2 additional years of losing, I can live with it. I've seen the Cubs lose before.

However, I could count on 2 hands, with some room left over, the true projected talents that have come up through the organization in the last 40 years.

That's not a good track record. Sure, they could try to buy their way to a title but they've done that, too, and it also hasn't worked.

It's a radical approach but not so radical for a team that hasn't won since Teddy Roosevelt was President. Not only did Arizona not have a team yet, they weren't even in the Union the last time the Cubs won a World Series. Drastic times call for...and all that....
