You are going to lose your bandwagon card.

Then, it will just be good dolphin, me, and Spaulding.

Its a slow turn. I can watch Non Hawks games and enjoy them for like...20 mins at least.

Big step
You're on probation.

Hey I'm lead dog in the "hockey sucks" pack, but the game does move along pretty quick, and its also great that they don't let fans move while the puck is in play. I would love to see MLB stadium do that too, but I think it would cause Joe Orr to keel over if he had to interact even more with Uncle Jerry's henchmen.

The only way it would work would be between innings/half innings or pitching changes.

That would be nice, but would get in the way of taking screaming kids over to the amusement parks and assorted distractions built into most new parks.

It really shouldn't require henchman. My dad taught me when i was five years old to wait on the aisle until the pitch was delivered and the action was complete.

I am proud to know Hawg Jr. has been taught the same thing and gets pissed at people when they don't follow this very simple rule.

I try to observe the same rule as much as I can, though sometimes the best time to sneak by a US Cellular Field usher is during an at bat!

I'm sorry. Hockey sucks almost as much as the Cubs. June is certainly a perfect time to play ice hockey in southern California.

They really gotta tighten up the schedule going forward. Start on October 1st (or September 30th when the calendar dictates), end on March 31st, and march through the playoffs -- no more two-day breaks between games. Play, rest, play, travel, play. The Stanley Cup Final should not be running at the same time as the NBA Finals.

Didn't that happen this year because of the olympics?

Normally NHL is about a week ahead of NBA in the playoff structure.

There's another reason why it sucks. Let's shut down the entire sport right in the middle of the season for 2 weeks.

That would be like playing the first two rounds of The Masters in April, and the final two rounds in May.

They also started a week earlier than usual. Looking to next year, an ideal would be to run from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, March 29th. That's 82 games over 182 days, start the playoffs on April 1st, and hopefully you're done well ahead of the NBA Finals.

I think it's interesting that the NFL seems like the only one who has gotten the length of the season correct, and they want to push that boundary still. You could cut down the number of months of the NHL, NBA, and MLB season by 25% and it would work out so much better.

Money wins out though, and that won't make more money.

That's it. Nothing else matters.

All this talk of logic and what would be more entertaining are meaningless.

The game is all pretty much just a big series of lucky breaks. There are almost no clean goals. The all seem to bounce off both friendly and opposing players in a way no one could have entirely intended. You play well and get no results and then some chance occurrence happens and the other team is winning.

I think that's true more in the playoffs than in the regular season due to a decline in ice quality and a tendency for more risk-averse play, though bad ice and more risk-averse play are becoming scourges of the regular season more and more as well. There are still plenty of pretty goals, though.

To follow up on this, as many lucky/unlucky breaks as there may be, it seems like they all even out in the end (as so many things do in this world) and leave you with a fairly clear picture of who's good and who isn't over the long run. Here are the final four from the last seven years, arranged by West Finalist, West Champion, East Champion, East Finalist:

2008: Dallas, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia
2009: Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Carolina
2010: San Jose, Chicago, Philadelphia, Montreal
2011: San Jose, Vancouver, Boston, Tampa Bay
2012: Phoenix, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York
2013: Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh
2014: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Montreal

Or,
4: Chicago**
3: Los Angeles*(presumptive*), Pittsburgh*
2: Boston*, Detroit*, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, San Jose
1: Carolina, Dallas, New Jersey, Phoenix, Tampa Bay, Vancouver

That's fifteen teams (or half the league) across 28 slots, with eleven of those teams having more than one appearance and none of the teams with one appearance having won the Stanley Cup. Looking at the teams with just one appearance in the final four, you have the last gasp of the old Dallas Stars, the one year that everything clicked for the Canucks, and the rest are Cinderella runs. But for all the lucky breaks in hockey, it's clear where it's the residue of design.
