He sounds like he may be a jerk. Just to ask as devil's advocate though is his dad like the biggest Star Wars freak?

That is a valid question. His dad doesn't follow Star Wars at all. His dad is ex military and currently a cop so this isn't a huge
surprise, just frustrating for me as I try to figure this role of step dad out. There aren't a lot of places to try to connect with a
13 year old for me, and thought this would be one.

Sounds like the father is a bit of a psycho. Be careful.

I've either been dating or married to my current wife for just shy of 5 years and I have never had to meet him or talk to him once.
That may be immature on my part, but honestly I don't see why I need to get mixed up in any possible drama. I've sat near him for
a few events and we just ignore one another.

I don't think it's immature, especially given your description of his controlling tendencies. Seems like a good strategy.

My daughter has her first Christmas play role tonight, and I'm nervous. If she doesn't play the hell out of her fake electric guitar during " Run, Run, Rudolph", she can find her own way home.

Kid who played hockey with my brother from a pretty famous local hockey family had a dad like that. If the kid played bad his dad would make him walk home alongside the car while carrying his hockey bag. In a result oriented world its hard to call him a bad parent since his kid went on to play at North Dakota and then a 14 year pro career in the IHL, AHL and finally Switzerland.

It isn't that hard.

I treated you like a dick as a kid but it was all worth it for a scholarship to a school in the middle of nowhere and an even more remote professional career.

Next time he's around, saddle up next to him, throw an arm around his shoulders, point to the kid across the room, and tell him, "thank you for your service" ... then immediately stab him in the kidney.

Well, she killed it, as was expected. She's a leash, after all. However, there was a kid who tried to steal the spotlight and she didn't level him. I only made her walk a couple blocks.

My son got in a pretty bad accident a few months ago. His fault but he's fine.

It happened at 6am. Insurance isn't paying the claim because they said the police report said he had a .96 BAC.

96 is the police code for "no test was necessary". Pretty sure .96 would have killed him - even considering his gene pool.

Sorry to hear, Doc. How many PM's do you already have from spada, shakes, and spiral?

I'd be scared to park in shakes' parking lot.

I hate indoor showcase season. It's long and boring and pretty much pointless especially when you're in a place that is so fucking small guys can't run a 60 and catchers can't make a throw to 2nd base. At least they were smart enough to have them swing wood but of course you can't see how the ball travels off the bat so that's pretty much pointless too.

The people making bank off of these showcases disagree with you.

Third day with no internet service at home with two grumbling teenagers and a wife. I had started a mildly bigoted post about unintelligible customer service based in the Czech republic and India, but changed my mind since large corporations like AT&T and the corporate ethos are really to blame for my irritation.

I hate AT&T, I am growing to hate the corporate form, and would root ardendently for the FTC and against corporate mergers if it now weren't for Mango Mussolini about to take the reins of power.

Damn has this been a shitty year.

Results may vary, but when I had ongoing problems with my Uverse service, I emailed the CEO to ask why I had to work so hard to remain a customer of AT&T. Got a phone call from his office within an hour & had an "executive" service supervisor at my house by the end of the day (When he showed up, he commented that he's only dispatched from the highest level). Problem fixed by end of the second day & got several permanent discounts on my account now.
