Real men play ball outside.

You can get easily fooled in a venue that small. The

Zepp hitting analysis can be done off a tee. And exit speed radar measurements don't need much space.

60 yd dash takes 180 feet, but can be scaled down and done in splits.

5-10-15 shuttle takes 30 feet tops.

Measuring Pitching and Throwing velocity does not take a lot of space, as speed is typically now measured 10 feet out of the hand (used to be 10 feet from landing spot, which is why many still argue that Nolan Ryan is still the fastest throwing MLB pitcher ever).

Grip strength measurement takes no space.

. . . Basically, it seems as if fielding fly balls is the only thing that cannot be done reliably.

I don't care about exit velocity

What the hell good does running in splits do for me

The hell do I care about shuttles

Pitching is the only thing worth looking at and you have to take that with a huge grain of salt.?

Don't care about grip strength at this point of the evaluation

None of it is reliable.

I have been to a few of these, and the measurements I listed are among those typically taken. My nephew just committed D1 as an outfielder (he was also registered as a pitcher), and he participated in a lot of the PerfectGame and PBR Report showcases.

I've been to a number of them myself. Yes they measure that stuff but it doesn't mean they matter. I've probably seen him play.

Nephew told me that 60 time is huge, and pitching and throwing velocity, as well as exit speed off the bat are big as well, but what got him his commit is how hard he plays (i.e. fuck you, Bernstein!: lol).

For instance, in one game that I personally witnessed at one of these showcases, on two or three separate fielder's choice-type occasions, he was dead-to-rights at 2nd and then 3rd base, but each time he came in so hard (he is a hulk and has thighs like a WWF wrestler) that he scared the shit out of the fielder and he was thus able, through use of thundering force, to kick the ball out of the fielder's glove with his extremely hard slides.

The scouts were loving that shit - you could look over and see them all talking and jotting things down after each of said plays.

Its a shame seeing the dead bats they make these players use, though. Even though there would have been a frickin' home run derby if they were allowed to use even average bats, either way, BBCOR is a joke. They really should just go ahead and switch to wood (which I have heard is happening in a lot of places anyhow).

You can't scale down a sprint and get an accurate split.

Sure you can, as its only 90 feet/30 Yards to first.

That is the only in-line distance you are asked to sprint in the game itself. Going the full 60 yards is more a test of time to terminal velocity/peak acceleration.

You can get time out of the box (first 30-45 feet) from that, which is a great split right there.

Splits are useless. Do it right or don't do it at all.

It is not a great split. First few steps out of box is not always accurate of true speed.

I see your point, but you must agree that the game only rewards practical, applicable speed.

What self-respecting restaurant sells an omelet that doesn't include cheese?!? I didn't think such a thing was possible. As far as "givens" go, it's maybe a step below having to explicitly order cheese on one's pizza. Sonsabitches. It was enough to piss off the Pope.

Three times this week I have had a package delivered, where the delivery person put the box right up against the screen door. One was so big, I couldn't open the door from the inside. I had to go through the garage to get to the front door. WTF?

A coworker had a package stolen from their front porch this week, he has it all on the security camera/ DVR. Lady followed the FedEx truck down their road, grabbed them all. Joke turns out on her, as she got a GREAT set of living room curtains!

I just found out the father of the best man in my wedding passed away this morning. What a terrible time to lose a loved one.

Awful, Frank. Sorry to hear that.

I was hesitant to post this, but may as well get it all out and count our blessings... A couple months ago, I hired a kid who had just gotten a graduate degree. He was gonna be great at his job... smart kid with a lot of drive. We sent him out East for some training for a few weeks, and after he got back home to Chicagoland, he took his own life. It appears it was over a girl... wish I could go back and tell him that no girl is worth that, but I can't. Terrible stuff. Hug the fuck out of your loved ones this Christmas because you truly never know what they're going through or when you won't be able to hug them again.

Yeah. Sorry to bring the mood down, but it hit me hard last nite. I got the text just as my dad was opening his "big gift" from the family. A new 32" computer monitor as his eyes have gotten bad over the last few years. My group of friends is getting to the age where going to wakes of parents will be a common thing.

And leash's story is fucking terrible. Definitely hug your loved ones and enjoy the holidays with them. One day you wont be able to.

I felt terrible yesterday, but went to a wake and service for a good buddy's dad who passed on Xmas Eve. I thought I was just feeling shitty from that.

5am, I woke up shivering with a 102.2 fever. Now I'm wide awake, feeling better, and drenching the bed in sweat even though I turned the temp down to 63 in the house.
