There are procedures that referees can take if they hear the chant, though they weren’t followed in Sunday’s game. However, procedure aside, this years-long controversy is just getting exhausting, and it’s fair to wonder why FIFA is spending so much effort to try and eliminate a relatively harmless chant while ignoring larger anti-gay issues under its own nose, like the kidnapping and torturing of gay men in Chechnya, where the Egyptian national team is training.

This is literally "It's bad (but apparently not that bad because it's called 'harmless' one sentence later), but...."

This is a pretty bad misuse of the word literally.

That's all you have to quibble over now? Thank you. Have a good one.

Well Gawker has a long history of overdramatizing minor political incorrectness. Seems odd to criticize what reads as a fairly reasonable take on the whole thing.

Ok, I'm going to make this easy for you:

Reader said it is wrong to call Lebron's friends "idiots" because those people are more "successful" than anyone on the board.

Reader makes vile remarks almost daily about a man who is cumulatively more successful than everyone on this board, and those "idiot" friends we are talking about here.

There is no context that excuses this raging hypocrisy.

I bet MANY on this board could have done great things if they would have started with a 'small loan of a few million' from their father.

What does Trump's (disagreed upon level of) success have to do with someone remarking about how vile of a person Trump is?

1. Do you think MANY on this board could also do well if they were in the inner-circle of someone like LeBron? If they were E to Vince Chase?

2. No, I said specifically it was making vile remarks about Trump, not pointing out when he is vile. It's all in the post you quoted.

It's not reasonable to excuse use of something intended as a homophobic slur because it is being uttered by a certain group of people. That's the point.

It's a bad point. The article mentioned multiple times the chant shouldn't be said but then put in perspective that words are not the worst thing gay people have to fear at the moment.

Multiple times? The article never actually said the chant shouldn't be used. The only condemnation of the chant was saying "it'd be cool if they didn't" (which is not saying that they shouldn't), and even that soft verbiage was followed up by calling the intended slur "relatively harmless".

This was clearly an attempt to excuse the use of such an intended slur because of certain characteristics of the people who were saying it.

I wonder how Ashley would feel if 4chan got a hold of her cell phone number? Would she be a baby about it?

You get the feeling that she is next....and I hope she isn't, since we don't need to go down that road where doxxing becomes a way of life, but I do hope she examines her own moral calculus. (Sorry, DAC.)

I'm actually worried that if you take Twitter away from these people they wont be able to alienate millions of Americans and may actually find productive uses for their time. But as long as its temporary it'll only feed their victim complex and make them more insufferable.

I've got quite a few good friends who are Mexican PUTO is used in a few different ways as a big time insult. If you seriously want to get into a fight with a Mexican, just call him a "puto" to his face. IT doesn't necessarily mean being a burrito, though.

As for what fans of Mexico soccer fans chant, let me tell you something. I would not advise anyone going to a Mexican soccer game and cheer for you team no matter what country you are rooting for but especially the US. For starters, both of those teams HATE EACH OTHER and the Mexican fans show up shitfaced and want to fight. Its like going to a Raider game out here and try to cheer for your team only worse.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... -employees

Quote:
Univision Holdings Inc. has been offering buyouts to employees at Gizmodo Media Group, according to a person familiar with the matter, marking the latest case of a digital-media upstart tightening its belt.

The former Gawker Media websites, which include the sports outlet Deadspin and the woman-focused site Jezebel, began offering employees buyout packages last week, according to the person, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private. The idea is to reduce Gizmodo’s budget for editorial employees by 15 percent, the person said.

The New York-based company hasn’t determined how many employees need to accept buyout offers before it resorts to layoffs, the person said.

And that's okay!

Well not really. When it came time for them asses damages it was revealed that Daulerio's "assets" were in the -$150k range. So he was ruined already.

I remembered that part but thought he was like still somehow supposed to be responsible for paying some exorbitant amount in damages.

Oh well. At least his life is still in shambles.
