As overused as they've become in recent years (the latter especially 'round Chicago), I love the Gotham and Neutraface families. They're so versatile and legible.

Let's exclude them in case it becomes an issue in the future. Maybe work a football, basketball, baseball, hockey stick or just the teams names in the logo.

I like the Gotham Font Family a lot and Neutraface is a good font for a throwback edge. I like the Arial Black "G" - it looks much better than helvetica. Arial Black is close to the Bears font but I didn't want to use the Bears or Blackhawks fonts... although they look great.

Really? C and G are the two letters you can use to distinguish Arial from Helvetica, and both are better in Helvetica -- something about Arial looks cheap.

Arial is on my never-ever-ever-use list with Impact (Haettenschweiler and Compacta) and Verdana. I even found a way to use Optima recently, and I hate Optima!

Someone has to keep it going in his absence.

For bold and strong, hard to beat Berthold City, the Blackhawks' font. United Sans is rapidly gaining currency as a sportsy font, combining athletic block lettering with some more traditional traits.

I like Lubalin Graph, which you may remember the Cubs using in the early '90s. If you want to combine strength with Chicago style, your best bet is probably Archer, which is Neutraface modified with slab serifs like Lubalin Graph (and its cheap imitation Rockwell).
