I agree with Boyd. This is also why I refuse to purchase any type of Camero, Mustang, or other sports car with rear-wheel.

It's about wanting to spend the money...

There are 5-8 places around here that I could go to, I'll just have to start calling to find the best price.

I have a meeting with a customer in Palos Hills at 4pm. So I'm leaving early, but still working. Just works out that I'll be on the roads earlier than normal today 8)

spmack/doug, what if you guys get 2 new tires at a time? If you have 2 that are decent use those 2 and get 2 new ones, then save up for a few weeks and get the other 2 replaced?

Yeah. Most people can afford the $500 for tires...but no one really wants to spend that $500 on tires. That is 83% of the cost of a new ECU Tune.

Why spend the $500 when you may be able to find used tires for about 20% of the cost that will last just a long?

How many of these people could do work at home?

According to them? 100%

As long as people are actually doing the work, I've never had an issue with leaving early. If they respect getting out, it isn't a problem. I'd rather have people working at home, as opposed to sitting in nonsense for three hours. If more people did that, it would cut down on the rush hour issue as well. But that's a perfect world type scenario. Not every work setting can handle this type of freedom. It can also cause an issue for the people that cannot do their job at home, and would like to leave as well.

That's really the biggest issue that I can see. Hell, I've got one guy in the office who doesn't even have a fucking cell phone. Says he doesn't believe in them. What the hell is there to believe? I'll never understand it.

Of course, that guy is also one of the biggest complainers when it comes to not beling allowed to telecommute. Figures.

I applied for a job a couple of years ago where they gave each employee a laptop so that they could work from home if needed.

It can be good and bad. If you get the wrong management team, you are always on the clock. But that goes into a completely different area of work philosophy. I was not required to report to an office for my last job, but I would on occasion. They would laugh when I showed up at 10 AM. If I left to get there between 8-9, it would take me 2 hours to commute one way. If I got there by 10, it took 45-50 minutes. I could work on my laptop at home and be more productive.

However, that's why I'm sensitive to people that don't have that option. Everyone that reports everyday looked at me as lazy, overpaid outside sales. They would also get upset when I'd show up without pants on.

.. WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST FRIDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST FRIDAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT FOR THESE AREAS.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING WITH THE HEAVIEST FALLING THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING.

* ACCUMULATIONS... SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES ARE LIKELY ACROSS THE AREA BY EARLY TONIGHT. ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY NEAR LAKE MICHIGAN. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION OF AROUND 1 INCH PER HOUR IS POSSIBLE FROM MID AFTERNOON INTO EARLY EVENING.

* HAZARDS... IN ADDITION TO THE FALLING SNOW... WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH LATE THIS AFTERNOON RESULTING IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW... ESPECIALLY IN OUTLYING AND OPEN AREAS. WIND CHILLS ARE ALSO FORECAST TO DROP TO ZERO TO 10 BELOW BY FRIDAY MORNING.

* IMPACTS... ACCUMULATING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES WILL LIKELY MAKE TRAVEL TREACHEROUS FOR THE AFTERNOON COMMUTE TODAY... WITH TRAVEL CONDITIONS REMAINING DANGEROUS AND TREACHEROUS TONIGHT INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING... ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS. HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES OF AROUND 1 INCH PER HOUR MAY MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR SNOW REMOVAL OPERATIONS TO KEEP UP IN SOME AREAS LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

The used route makes sense. I"ll have to check on that when I start calling around.
I'm going to drive the truck into the ground anyway...and a 97 Exploder with 128k miles probably isn't worth $500 in new tires.

and btw: the local roads are kinda shitty already.

actually it was down to the basement to do laundry.

But luckily the one errand to the library was done with before the roads started to get icy and such
