I remember being a child in school, maybe in 4th grade or so, and we were asked to identify and differentiate wants and needs.
This is about the extent of the consumer education that was offered back in the 80s and it was all that was really necessary.
This society has no concept of the difference between wants and needs. That douche in the American dream thread has no idea.

Many that is true, but an incomplete statement.

When I was a kid, my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school, we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.

You're yelling at clouds, man. Just grill some ribs on that fine Weber grill you have and chill. Our country will be ok. The kids ARE alright.

If a kid asks you where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is, "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did."

First grade, where they teach the kid pride they tell him he'll need to thrive
In a world where only the strong will survive,
So he's taught the art of more, to compare to and to keep score
Monday thru Friday while he stares at the floor
Til' Sunday they make him go to school once more
Only this time they make him wear a suit and a tie
And listen to some guy who claims to know where people go when they die
Tell him that only the meek are gonna inherit the earth
Well shit, by this time the kid doesn't know what anything is worth
