1. Buy a 2.5 million square-foot, dilapidated building from the US Post Office for $24 million
2. Do nothing with it for seven years
3. Sell it for $130 million

Nice...except the guy is now dead.

Hoorah, for the kids and the "nurse" who was left a tidy sum for taking care of him in his later years.

Quote:
Martin Mulryan, a British business consultant who acted as Davies' emissary to Chicago until three months ago, said the 80-year-old Davies' death after a short fight against pneumonia "was hushed up for a week to make sure that there were no problems with the deal going through."

A seat at the table and a little chutzpah can go a long way in life.

That's a good real estate deal, but I think the streets that were given to Ricketts in Lakeview are probably more valuable than the acreage pictured above.

They SOLD him the area just outside the ballpark facing Clark St. that at one time was an extension of a street (Grace I think) that the players parked their cars on. It wasn't anything that was being used otherwise and the city MADE money on the deal, rather than spending money on it, like they have so often for the pale hose.

*SIGH* Wrong as usual, Steve. You're talking about that stretch of Seminary that they glommed from a railroad. I'm talking about the glomming of Waveland and Sheffield and the current attempt to glom Addison and Clark. Why do you love glom artists so much?
