Interesting but extremely unscientific quiz designed to determine the extent to which you live in a socioeconomic bubble. Feel free to post your score using the poll. Score breakdowns were taken straight from the website; score descriptions pasted below. Quiz located here: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sens ... -a-quiz-2/ Quote: Do you live in a bubble? There exists a new upper class that’s completely disconnected from the average white American and American culture at large, argues Charles Murray, a libertarian political scientist and author. Take this 25-question quiz, based on a similar one published in Murray’s 2012 book, “Coming Apart: The State of White America 1960-2010,” to find out just how thick your bubble is. ![]() More background on the quiz: Quote: One of my central propositions in my 2012 book “Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010” was that a high-IQ, highly educated new upper class has formed over the last half century. It has a culture of its own that is largely disconnected from the culture of mainstream white America. I could expect that many of my readers would be part of that new upper class. The problem that stumped me for a while was how to convince them that their isolation is real. Eventually, I decided to try self-recognition. And so Chapter 4 of “Coming Apart” was titled “How Thick is Your Bubble?” and contained a 25-item quiz that let readers see for themselves where they stood on a 100-point scale. The lower their scores, the thicker the cultural bubble that separated them from the lives of ordinary Americans.

54 I've read some of Murray's books, including the most famous one, but I have to say that I connected with his Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960–2010. Wasn't perfect, but very few people on college campuses were (or are) producing this kind of work. |

65. Interesting groups you have chosen for the poll answers, I took one of the three my score fit into. |

Obviously unscientific method but Murray's thesis seems to support Trump's campaign strategy: appeal to masses on the margins who feel excluded by political and economic elites. Not a new strategy of course but seems to be working well for Trump due to his outsider status. Using Murray's language, I guess a classic Trump supporter would score high when taking this quiz, though not all folks who score high would be Trump supporters of course. |

43 and it probably could have been lower if I added all of you into the consideration of whether I know people who would have a difficult time getting Cs in school. I don't consider myself in a bubble but I could see that. The 0-43 range is a pretty spot on descriptor. It's kind of painful for me to think I am in a similar bubble to a suburban housewife. I assume we arrived at those scores in very different ways. I lost points on not watching many shows regularly or going to restaurants located in the out lots of malls. |

what is the point of all this? Am I supposed to be in a bubble or not? Watching TV shows is a good thing or bad? |
