Post subject:  UFBT (6/10/16) - Stories of Questionable Customer Service

Share an example of a time you or someone you know received questionable customer service.

We'll determine if things should have been handled differently by the company, employee... or you. :)

Example:

Helped a friend move into his new home last weekend. He hired a local moving company (typically very polished and very Polish) because he had used them twice before. One of those two-guys-and-a-truck companies, although not THAT company. Things went well overall, expect for "the incident."

As soon as the movers started unloading their truck the skies opened up and it began to downpour. Water tends to make metal surfaces slippery. One of the movers was carrying my friend's flatscreen TV, shuffled down the metal ramp leading from the truck to the ground, slipped, and fell on his back. The guy took the fall like a champ, flat on his back, while never dropping the TV. It was incredible.

However, the force of his fall caused him to bend the TV just enough to crack the screen.

The movers, who were extremely apologetic, called their HQ and were told to offer a $100 discount on the cost of the move. The TV was apparently a pretty decent purchase 9 years ago as my friend says he paid about $1300 for it at the time. After some negotiation, they agreed to a $150 discount. I still feel my friend should have opened an insurance claim, but I understand that can be a hassle.

But then he tried to tip the movers after paying his bill ($40 each). The guy who (accidentally) damaged the TV accepted the tip while the other guy got all pissed off, turned his back on my friend, and walked back to the truck. Still not sure why.

What say you?

Was the guy pissed because he thought the tip was light? Was it a big move, lots of big and awkward pieces? Stairs?

I used a two guys and a truck company 4 years ago when I got divorced but I had everything boxed and in totes and
staged and labeled. I moved all my stuff from my house and into the new apt which was on the ground floor in less
than 3 hours. I think I gave each guy $20 or $25, it had to be the easiest job they had in a while.

Last year, Ashley Furniture was replacing our dining room table. It's really big, so they had to remove the legs to carry it down the stairs. I hear a loud BOOM, then a thud, thud, thud. Granted I was upstairs, but it was pretty obvious that homeboy dropped a leg down our recently-completed custom built wooden stairs. Plus, I run down to see him picking the leg up at the bottom of the stairs. I call him out. Something like "Did you just drop a leg down the stairs?" He looks up at me, huffs, and walks out. After a couple months of back and forth, Ashley sent us a check for $750 for the damage. I understand accidents happen, but he wouldn't even own up to it. I wouldn't have been nearly as mad if he would have apologized.

From what I understand the move went well overall, despite the fact my friend lived on the third floor of his apartment. Honestly have no clue why the other dude got pissed. I thought it might be a "how does this math work out" issue -- what with the negotiation on the damaged TV discount -- but they were speaking broken English and Don Tiny wasn't around to translate.

Getting a new fridge from Sears and the guy comes in and hauls the old one out. Before he brings the new one in I ask him if he wants a bottle of water, he says no thanks but do I mind if he uses the bathroom. I say no problem, first door on the right in the hallway. He gets everything set up, I say thanks and he goes on his merry way. A couple hours later I go to use the bathroom and there is piss all over the toilet. Guy must have had a split stream issue or something. Happens to the best of us but WTF... at least wipe up a little afterwards.
