Holy fuck balls. Talk about a city of built on shaking down residents/visitors. First time visiting in my life this past weekend and I paid $15 to cross one bridge to then pay $8 to cross another. Seriously, eat shit. |

New Yorkers don't cross bridges. You live where you work. They generally stick to their boroughs. No one wants to go to Queens. |

Until you use their public transportation system a visit to any large city is incomplete. |

That's how I know Chicago isn't a world-class city, the sidewalks aren't covered with festering bags of trash. I was only there for 1.5 days so didn't have much time to explore such an expansive city. Definitely noticed it in Brooklyn. Some businesses had 4 piles with 15-20 bags stacked on the sidewalk. Lower Manhattan where I stayed wasn't as bad. Stacks of 2-3 bags. But I think that's because they probably just threw the other 15 bags down all the holes that were EVERYWHERE from construction. |

If you are staying in Manhattan you really shouldn't be taking bridges unless you took cabs. There are free bridges too. Those bridges really aren't designed to screw tourists. They are designed to screw the people who live in long island who commute in every day making big money while living in a place with a yard and much less of a price. |

I had a wedding 1.5 hours west of NYC near West Point. Picked up the car in LGA and used Google Maps to direct us. Was there a way we could've avoided bridges? |

Google Maps doesn't care about toll bridges. When we would go in on weekends we would basically look at the map, navigate to the free bridge, and then put in our final destination. During the week you are better trusting google maps and spending the money if you need to. |

It is amazing they have not come up with any sort of solution for the garbage problem either. It's not like garbage didn't exist 100 years ago. I don't know why they don't have a dumpster on every block that gets emptied every 2 or 3 days. They've got the money. |

It's nice the lines have many stops but slightly annoying since they travel slowly compared to other cities' subways I've experienced. |

It's been years since I've been to NYC so I can only guess they did similar to what the CTA did; eliminated A, B or "all stop" designations. Quality of life took a big step backward when that happened. |

The problem is most of the city wasn't built with alleys. In Chicago that trash is there, it's just hidden in the alleys you barely notice. |

And I love NYC...in fact, hopefully beginning next year I will make it a point to go once a year. And I will hang in Queens, IMU....and Brooklyn, too. |

good dolphin wrote: crossed from Bronx to Manhattan on several bridges just a few weeks ago with no tolls...fucking suburbanites You can get borough to borough without tolls, but you cannot cross from jersey to NY without tolls. All of the Hudson River bridges and the bridges from Jersey to Staten island have tolls. You can easily get from the Bronx to Long Island without tolls. Just take one of the smaller bridges over the Harlem River and then cross the 59th St Bridge or Brooklyn Bridge. |
