Yup. This goes squarely in the "harsh but fair" category.

I was training a new tech today and we had a 45 mile drive to remote location and he woke up when we pulled in the driveway. Asked me where are we at ? I told him do not worry you will not ever be here again. Drove back and let him go. I would love a nap now and then also. Now he gets a long one.

Perhaps while trying to hold class while driving. If you cannot stay awake or attend my class you go away. Who sleeps on a probationary period at a job you are not qualified to do? Really?

A new hire. Training. Lets play who is 23 getting a chance to learn something and come to work and stay awake for a shift. He nodded oddly when his personal cell rang though. So he can be alert for some notifications.

I think I'd forgive a nap on a big drive. As long as he's working his ass off when we get to the job.

What was the job anyway? Installing some equipment or something? A 2 man gig?

No. Routine learning where remote addresses are at and basic knowledge of the job. And he yawns when we get to the job and acts like he needs a nap. I have no time in my day for this and he can tell he has fucked up. But sleep on the way home also and wonder why you just got let go. Like he never saw it coming. Pussification of America.

GPS does not know this address FWIW. I had to call and have them direct me first time I was going to said address. Nice try though.

Did you expect him to be taking notes on turns during the drive?

When GPS doesn't know the address, just type an address in from nearby. I bet even Sleeping Beauty knew that.

The more I think about it, the new employee not seeing the stoplight on that 45 minute drive means he could never do his job.

Guy doesn't sound like he was technical enough...Turn left at Goober's Place. Make a right by Fanny's Restaurant. Drive 12 miles and make a right at the big red barn.

I've never heard of not writing down turn by turn directions as a cause to get fired. Sounds more like Scooter was pissed the guy got a 45 min nap in while on the clock.

If there is one thing somebody can do at work that deserves a raise, its enduring a 90 mile car ride with Scooter.

Maybe he saw you drinking some road soadies and figured if he was gonna die he might as well be sleeping when it happens, Scoots.
