Post subject:  My son had a seizure today

There was nothing on the CT or lab work. They don't know why. We'll do follow up stuff but I'm settling in with the internet and coming down from the stress now. He was at a camp Edwards in Troy Wisconsin on a school trip and I was called around 9:30 to go up there. He's nervous and embarrassed. He's not on any medication, I thought maybe he had a concussion or something from hockey but there was nothing on the ct scan. I know people have seizures for no reason other than they have seizures and since his tests were good I'm not freaking out, but my head hurts and I'm a little frazzled. He's slept all day, but is up now and we'll watch him. Anybody have experience, advice, etc they'd like to share it'd be great. I'm just lost.

Sorry to hear that Spaulding. No experience with seizures, unless you want to talk about a black lab I had when I was a kid. And you don't.

Best wishes.

Sorry to hear, Spaulding. Hopefully it is just a one-time thing. Best to the son.

Sorry to hear that, but I have good news. My brother in law suffered a few seizures as a youth without being epileptic. As I understand it, he'll always be at risk, as he has a low seizure threshold, but it has not affected his quality of life one bit. In fact, I wouldn't even know if they hadn't told me. I also once had a grand mal seizure which was likely due to cluster headache medication. I have not had one since, and that was almost ten years ago. Look into it, but he's probably fine.

One of my sons is autistic and had one nearly two years ago. It scared me to death, so I know what you're feeling. Fortunately, my little guy is doing ok; the docs have been unable to account for it. What the docs said was that anyone can find himself or herself in a situation in which the various causes of a seizure all happen to occur at the same time (more or less), so . . . hopefully this is a one-time thing with your boy.

Hope he feels better.

He was probably stressed because we have to face the Giants.

Tell him it's only a game (we both know it's not, but he doesn't need to know that).

I've had a couple within the last 30 months or so. My tests came back normal as well. I Was told that Alcohol and energy. Sure he's not hitting the bottle while away at camp? Or at least the Red Bulls? I was drinking like 3 Monsters a day and cut that out. Haven't had one since. Did he have an EEG? I think that's the gold standard test.

I hope your son is better.I have a nephew that had a few seizures but eventually they went away and he is fine now.

As soon as I read "camp in Wisconsin",my first thought was possibly a tic somewhere on his body. Hopefully, they ruled that out at the hospital.

Sorry to hear about your kid, Spaulding ... I couldn't possibly imagine having to take it in not knowing what the hell to think exactly. Like Nas said, don't neglect your own rest either.

Bernstein: Don't send Spaulding thoughts and prayers, SEND HER MONEY!!!!

I Had to do it. Sorry.

But I'm glad he's OK, Spaulding. That's some scary stuff for a parent. I feel for you. My sister has a friend that has seizures through out her life. She's in her 30s now. Doc told her he doesn't know why. But it's long stints for her. First time in her teens. Then 5 years later. Then 5 years after that from what my sister told me.

Post subject:  Re: My son had a seizure today

I know a lady whose daughter had a seizure when she was 12, probably about your son's age. It was a one time thing. The doctor said it was brought on by the combination of stress and sleep deprivation (there was another unrelated medical crisis going on in the family at the time). I recall they had her do a sleep deprived EEG, and ended up making some recommendations for stress management and help with sleeping. I hope it's something simple like that.

I am sorry to hear this, I hope he does well.

My grandmother had issues with this. So, the best I could do is recommend her doctor, but he is out of Bolingbrook hospital.

I had something like one while driving on 294 several years ago. No history in the family, no problems found, never had one since. Just a random FU from my body I guess. Humans are weird.
