Thought popped into my head yesterday as I overhead a woman colleague converse with a male colleague over this week's point spreads. From what I caught before putting my headphones back in she didn't sound dumber than anyone here or a Score caller. Shared interests is one for pillars of a successful relationship but would you want a significant other to banter/debate/watch sports with? |

I enjoy going to occassional Cubs/Tigers game with the girlfriend. We'll sometimes go together to a bar to meet friends and watch a game. But the game is the her last priority. Otherwise she has zero interest in sports. I like having that as "boys only" thing. |

I think you overheard a lesbian. just kidding! My wife doesn't know her Kris Bryant's from her Jay Cutler's but that's ok. It would have been nice to have another "sports buddy". |

My GF is very knowledgeable and interested in football, hockey and baseball. She will watch, attend as well as discuss them all the time with me. I like it except for the whole steelers, penguins, pirates angle. I cannot really compare to home much anymore but many Pittsburgh women are pretty good fans not just some sort of lip service. |

Other than having to watch Nebraska Huskers football it's been pretty great. She asks good questions about penalties during football so that she can understand a bit better. Been watching some of the Cubs games with me and was very tolerant of most of the golf I had on during the summer. |

I'm lucky. My wife has evolved from not knowing or caring to being an avid fan of the hawks, cubs and bears. She enjoys both watching on tv and attending games and really is quite knowledgeable. She also enjoys handicapping and betting on the ponies. One thing she has yet to master is listening to baseball on the radio. She says she just cannot visualize it. |

I've always pondered this. The current girl knows how much of a crazed fan I am (especially football), so she has taken an interest in football to try to get closer to me. I even bought her one of those "Football For Dummies" book. She's picked up a few things here and there. Not bad for someone who didn't know too much of anything just a few months ago. One of the things that helps if you mansplain to a women (sorry Julie DiCaro) that teams have "4 chances to try to move to ball 10 yards to the imaginary yellow line on the field" otherwise they have to give the ball to the other team. I'd say it's good. It's only bad if she wants to tag along when it's you and the fellas. |

My wife thought all the best NFL players were also professional bowlers in the offseason for about a year until she remarked on it and I explained the truth. |

I let my wife watch five minutes of sports only on weekends right after she finishes the dishes and before she starts the laundry. |

Yes. She was pretty clueless about football when we met but knew a lot about hockey. I told her to ask as many questions as she wanted about football while we watched and she started to really enjoy it. It makes it really easy to convince her to get up early to head to a game or to watch it on television. It certainly is better than her not knowing or caring about it. |

My wife has become a big Hawks / Cubs fan. I have not been able to cure her of her Packers affliction though. |

When the Pack wins and the Bears lose I have to fly the Green and Gold flag out front so it has been painful the last few seasons, but been a fun little rivalry between them and me. |

I have to say that when I was dating, men often said they liked women who were knowledgable about sports, but the reality was that most were extremely intimidated by a woman who could have an intelligent sports conversation with them. It almost seemed like they liked the idea in theory, but not IRL. On the positive side, I do think some of that has changed over the recent years. My husband of 24 years readily admits that I know more about sports than he does, and has never been embarrassed about it like some previous boyfriends were.... |

Keyana! I appreciate that my wife dislikes sports. We have a ton in common already, and I hate watching games with other people anyways. |
