I know Delasalle had to call last night due to lack of teachers today. Our school is scrambling for subs. Anyone else?

CPS has 1st quarter grade entry today no kids. Counts as a staff development day.

I need to get actual confirmation, but my son is claiming most of his teachers are out today. (Lakes Comm High School in Lake Villa).

Why not? They are allowed to take days off.

Actually, I'm not sure they are able to for recreation reasons. That is why they can't take a week of vacation in October.

MANY teachers do get a small number of personal days to use throughout the year. I would think they have be required to give some sort of notice, but who knows...

Being a teacher is the hardest profession out there. If you don't believe me just ask a teacher as they will tell you. But please ask them before June and not again until the end of August.

#1 - Teachers get plenty of opportunity for days off in the summer, spring break, 2 weeks in winter. Not to mention the numerous paid fictional holidays during the season most professions don't acknowledge.

#2 - It's a smack in the face to parents who try to set the right message of "yes, I know many are at the parade, but you need to be in school" only for them to go to school and it be a waste of time.

yes, they may get 2 personal days, but those need to be planned in advance.

There is a domino effect for teachers being in school to parents and children. They need to be in school. There are a number of + and - to being a teacher. Being in school on scheduled days with little flexibility is just part of the gig....deal with it.

#1 So?

#2 I'm sure those parents probably hopped the train after they dropped their kids off.

Cool...my buddy and I are taking his son and stepson this year...going both nights...sitting pretty much across from the entrance ramp. The kids are totally into the whole thing, it cracks me up. My 19 month old loves to follow Enzo & Cass along through that whole thing.

If you're a citizen and 18 or older, you should not be able to go to the Cubs Parade if you don't vote. Pathetic.

Lots of kids out these last few days, too. Parents have been calling them in "sick" the day after games, when they really have a Cubs hangover from staying up too late to see the end. It's more common if the kid is named something like Bryant Addison Theo Smith.

My son's high school has 2700 kids. There were 850 kids there today. Many teachers out too. He said his math class was a sub teacher and 5 kids.
