Post subject: | Aggregate vs Embedded Deductible |
Reviewing health plan options today, and came across this one for the first time.... So I believe in the past, everything was an aggregate deductible. Meaning if you had a 2.5k individual / 5.0k family deductible, then you had to pay for your family up until you hit the 5.0k, regardless of who it was or the bill size. Once you were over the 5k, then you get the benefits to kick in. Embedded at 2.5 k/ 5.0 k means that if the family is covered, and person A has a bill for 4 k, the first 2.5k is the family's responsibility and the insurance picks up the other 1.5k. If they have further bills, the insurance picks it up because the indivdual amount has been met. However, if the spouse or child gets a 2k bill, then the family needs to pick up that entire 2k, and then that adds to the first person's 2.5 k, and they have met 4.5k of the family deductible. First of all, do I understand this correctly? Secondly, the Embedded that I have seen are higher than the aggregates which makes sense, but the premiums are way way lower. To me, it kind of makes sense to go with an embedded if the family as a whole has no health issues.... you are rolling the dice that any issue will just hit one person, but an aggregate at 2.5/5.0k would be worse than an embedded at 4k/8k if it was just one person facing the bills, correct? |
