They spent all their time, energy, and resources making Trump out to be the ultimate evil boogeyman. #ThisTimeItsDifferent and shit like that. Even praised former candidates like Romney, McCain, and even George Bush. All of this failed to stop Trump. All Trump has to do is not be a completely unmitigated disaster the next four years and it's hard to think of any Democrat selling point in 2020. They got nothin' |

It's a thin line between "They do it too!" and "Trump does suck and deserves it!".I think us Libertarians need to work hard towards 2020. |

If Trump's base economically benefits from his presidency, he'll likely be in good position to be re-elected. If his economic policies fail, then he won't win a second term. Everything I've heard about his likely economic advisors suggests he will fail. |

The Trump campaign was just as shocked as the rest of us that they won. Their internal polls were similar to all the polls were saw. |

Trump likely gets slaughtered if he was running against Obama. Let's hope that Hillary rides off into the sunset. I certainly don't need a repeat of this in four years. Bernie Sanders was able to get some excitement about his progressive agenda. They have to keep reaching the young vote. That's what did them in this time. 54% of the young voters isn't going to get it done. I think that Gavin Newsom and/or Elizabeth Warren can get the young people back to the polls. |

In a lot of ways, it would have been shocking for a Dem to have won after 8 years of holding the office |

This is her swan song. She shouldn't run again. That is probably why the speech today seemed genuine. I have heard people talk how candidates for President feel when the realization that it is over sets in. Two time loser 74 years old. Nah exit the stage and let someone else take a stab at it. |

Yeah, I agree w/ LTG, she sounded like this was her last rodeo. Hopefully, she'll come home & run for Mayor when Emmanuel becomes the Democratic Presidential Nominee in 2020. |

The democrats have a similar problem that the republicans do. There are so many varied interests to serve it is difficult to please them all. The republicans have to try to serve, if they want to, every interest from wall st. to abortion to evangelicals to guns. There are as many varied interests on the left. In the internet/twitter era every small interest can be pissed off if you are not bowing down to them. A winning election does better with just a couple of themes laser focused and pounded away at. The war on women was one or its the economy stupid another. I have no idea how Trump avoided this pitfall on the right. It might just be that he was so all over the place and hitting everything that not one singular thing could stick to him. We may be entering a new era where the main old fashioned parties can do little at all. |

Chus wrote: I think that Gavin Newsom and/or Elizabeth Warren can get the young people back to the polls. I'm not optimistic about Gavin Newsom. Think about what a dystopia San Francisco has become now under the neoliberals' trust in Silicon Valley. Now add two more years and consider Newsom's legacy. He likely ends up being the same kind of culturally liberal economic elitist the voters just rejected, but doesn't even have an identity box to check. He'll be Rahm Emanuel with movie-star looks. |

What about Tulsi Gabbard? Her star seemed to be rising until she resigned from the vice chair of the DNC to endorse Sanders. If Clinton won, I figured that would be pretty much the end of the road for her for anything meaningful, but now it might give her some street cred with the younger voters. Wikileaks showed the DNC chastising her for backing Sanders and that they were done fund-raising for her, and she still didn't seem all that afraid of pissing them off by continue to criticize Hillary's foreign policy strategy right up through the election. Would President be way too much of a leap for a relative unknown like her? I'm no political heavyweight...just spitballing. Just seems that she could be used in some way to re-energize the party. |

Now the Democrats are back to being dead. |
