I was having this discussion and I'm wondering if I was off. My wife has to use a vacation day for Monday after because Christmas Day is a Sunday. Every place I've ever worked and even known gives you the Monday afterwards off in that case and the Friday before if the holiday is on a Saturday. I assumed this was the case everywhere for "paid holidays" by policy. Obviously, it isn't universal but is it normal to not get a holiday if it falls on the weekend? |

Yep. In fact, I plan on being off from 12/16 until 1/3. Lots of free time for Greg! |

Yeah, if the holiday falls on a weekend you get the Monday or Friday off. Unless you work weekends. |

Yes. 25th - 1st is company "shutdown". Essentially "free" paid vacation |

Send them a strongly worded letter. Even we have that day off. |

Only the OBACS (Office Building Ass Clowns) get Friday and Monday as holidays. We working stiffs get paid the extra 8 hours on the 24th and 25th (plus get paid double-time for the entire 12 hours each day= 64 hours of pay for 24 hours of work,$$) |

I haven't worked from Christmas Eve through the day after New Year's Day for 28 years or so. |

Off both Mondays after said Holiday. On call so not really off at all. Paid damn well for it. Yes. |

After December 20th, I'm only working on 1 day until 1/3/17. all those people taking vacations during the summer...waste! my office is giving us the wraparound days...12/23 and 12/26 for christmas. 12/30 and 1/2 for new year's. we'll probably leave early on the 29th. |

Monday is the paid holiday. If we feel like working and have enough work to do, we can choose to work instead and use that day as a comp day within a year, which is our policy for all of our paid holidays. For example, I always work President's Day because I don't have kids in school and flights out of town are expensive that weekend. |
