Who are your favorite barbers in the suburbs? Not talking about haircut chain salons, or whatever the hell you call 'em.

Main Street Barber Shop in Downers Grove is pretty solid. Neck shave and shoulder massage are included in the basic cut. Usually not a long wait. Walk-ins accepted. Sensational heroin.

Most of the schools out by us are new so I'm not sure. JCPenney does a great job though, and you get bangs cut free on Tuesdays!

From what I am told the barber shop experience is something white guys really miss out on. I used to try and find an old school guy whenver possible but it is more and more difficult.

Not in the burbs but who cares.

Joe's Barber Shop in West Peoria.

Been there for 60 years or more. Joe died about 20 years ago and his daughters took over. Red Naugahyde barber chairs with the matching sofa and loveseat with steel arms. The wood paneled shop is part of the enclosed front porch of the house Joe and his family lived in. Mrs. Joe still lives there. Permanent window air conditioner built into the wall. Rotary phone in a cabinet on the wall. They get out the Whiskey for the customers every Christmas. They also have the hot shaving creme/straight edge combo on the neck followed up with a hot towel neck rub. Menus from the local bars on the bulletin board.

An awesome place.

Two of my partners go there. I think one of them wants to switch to a hot girl at a "salon" but has a Seinfeld problem.

Ya' know, we're getting a lot more of this talk on the board. I have no problem with it, but we don't rub our heterosexuality in your face.

I don't think the Matador wants "those" kinds of clients.

Sportsman Barber shop in Winfield. It is right across from the Metra stop/Winfield PD. A block up from John's Buffet. Run by four women and they give excellent hair cuts. They keep a cooler full of beer, have one or two over the course of a day, and if you ask nicely they will give you one to drink too. Cash only but worth the good hair cut. Highly recommend if you're near Dupage Hospital or Winfield in general.

Back when I had hair to cut I went to Guy & Dom's in Skokie. Dominic was my guy. Sadly, the place closed. Dom went to another spot but I have no use for him these days.

I went to that place once when I was in 7th grade. They fucking massacred my head. I entered Guy and Dom's an awkward but decent enough looking kid and exited feeling like I had acquired a severe deformity--something akin to the picture below, but far, far worse:

Image

I wanted to kill myself. I tried to wear a hat in school the next day so I could conceal my freakish head, but school rules prohibited such behavior. Needless to say, my classmates mocked me for the next couple of weeks until my hair grew into a somewhat acceptable appearance.

I always wanted to firebomb that place for inflicting one of the more humiliating episodes of my life on me--but unfortunately, I never settled the score. Those fuckers should've been shut down for gross incompetence years before that video was shot. It is one of the greatest regrets of my youth that I did not exact revenge on them.

I have gone to the same barber, Marty, for most of my adult life. He has changed locations three times. He is now in a shop right next to New York Bagel on Touhy in Lincolnwood. The shop is interesting in that it looks like it is a salon but it is six Italians guys cutting hair and goofing on each other all day.

Maybe Walt cut your hair. Dom and Guy were both great.

When I was a kid I used to go to Kings Kuts on Dempster. Kenny or Mickey would cut my hair. Back then I didn't want it cut very much and only went when my parents complained too much. I think it's still there. Mickey always liked to park his red Corvette from the 60s right in front.

We have our own barber in my Italian club- Tony Da Barber. You haven't lived until you've sipped a Campari & soda while playing Scopa and watching Tony Da Barber cut Ernie Da Tailor's hair.
