Well I'm sorry I'm watching a movie and had a question. Apparently we all need to be incognito. |

i thought i was the only one who appreciated "the hurt locker". it's no "Jarhead" but it's pretty awesome. for soldiers' perspective, though, nothing tops "dear america" for me. |

The Hurt Locker is great. The Messenger is a really underrated movie too, although it's not really s traditional war movie. |

my brother in law served 2 tours in Iraq. he hated "the hurt locker". he also hated "stop-loss". but he loved "jarhead" and i think he was a fan of "the messenger". i haven't seen it but ben foster is the man. i probably should try and get a viewing in. |

US Navy 1983-89. I have a lot of respect for Army and Marines. IIRC, Navy, Air Force and Army boot camp is 8 weeks and Marines go 12 weeks. Then, after boot camp, Marines go another 12 weeks of extended combat training and Army goes another 8 weeks? Soldiers and Marines correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I never had to crawl, eat and sleep in mud so respect is extended to you proud grunts who did. ![]() Pretty good movies listed above and accurate I'm told. As far as the most accurate portraying any boot camp?.. Full Metal Jacket for sure. Most inaccurate portraying boot camp?.. Stripes. ![]() On a serious note, it is my belief that all veterans should get the day off with pay. |

Basic combat training itself is ten weeks long for everyone. From there it depends on your job how long Advanced individual training is. For example i was a medic so I did 16 weeks of EMT and combat medicine directly following basic. Then three weeks of jump school. Then I finally got to my real unit |

Yes It's a terrible idea, and part of the mystification of the military. Most of these guys aren't heroes, and training a bunch of kids to be killers to "protect our freedom" likely could have been better served by training them to do something else. There are many heroes who have done incredible service to society without ever picking up a gun. |

I'm good with the free college honestly, and the state has some great benefits like free hunting/fishing licenses and some nice license plates. The state also gives tax breaks on property taxes if you have service connected disabilities. I also get free medical from the VA for the rest of my life although it can be a pain to access. |
