I went to a seminar on restorative justice last night and one of the speakers described a trip to England, where beat cops don't carry guns and where most of them say they would not want to.

It got me thinking a bit on the subject. Are there really many instances where the police gun is a deterrent? In my experience, the criminals don't fire on police because they know that will result in greater pain for them, more interest in their case and a longer prison sentence not because they know the police will fire back. So are the police in any greater danger without that weapon?

Obviously you would want specialized units to be carrying but I wonder how the dynamic would change if the average cop was not carrying.

People always want to compare the UK to US for this but private gun ownership isn't the same. Makes it an apples to oranges type of comparison.

You know it would. It would also be safer if people who committed gun crimes got very lengthy sentences. In Cook County if you are a felon caught with a gun you are supposed to get 10 years at 85%,never happens because the States Atty lets them plea it out.
Why not designate the street gangs that are causing all the mayhem in the inner cities,as the cops know who they are, as what they in fact are. Terrorists.

If you want to actually have a debate about this issue that isn't fucking stupid we can debate the off duty carrying of weapons, but now that police are becoming targets of anti-white terrorists I dont think that's a good idea.

Are off duty police subject to the same concealed carry rules as private citizens? I ask because I do not know, but if there are differences perhaps those could be rectified in the interest of fairness. Again, I dont trust that this wont result in tragedy because terrorists affiliated with BLM could easily stalk police until they are unarmed before attacking them.

You still have highly trained teams of cops with guns. They should be trained enough to not shoot kids in parks with toys and guys walking in the middle of a street.
