From pandering, white, media executives comes....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LzggK5DRBA

Satire or not, this might not be the best time to go twisting the collective tail of white people (EDIT: because it can easily be mis-categorized as intentionally divisive, or in this case, as "advocating white genocide").

Anyway, a bunch of white people are pissed, and other white people are angry that those original white people are pissed, and are mocking them for cancelling Netflix subscriptions in protest, because protesting is only cool when you agree with it, or something? Netflix even deleted Dave Rubin's top comment on the video.

Do you go out of your way to be the flagbearer of all things white and male or does it just come naturally?

I think satirizing the group think and awful lack of self-awareness that allows for the occasional thematically racist fraternity/sorority party could be good for a few yucks, and who knows, it might even open a few eyes. But really, who doesn't know those kinds of things are bad? When I was in college, my entire house knew it was wrong when two other houses brought lawnmowers and weed whackers to a "Tacos and Tequila" exchange, and everyone laughed at them when they fought their suspension.

I also think there's something to be said for unequivocally casting "white people" as the villain. It's different than casting a white guy, even a racist white guy, as the villain to be bested by the protagonists, instead it paints an entire race of people, perhaps unintentionally, as cretins worthy of scorn. It's certainly plausible that in practice, the satire will disarm that message, but it is clear from both the teaser and the reveal trailer that said message is there to be found, and it can be incredibly divisive (and offensive) to people.

The only thing missing was to preface "Have a blessed day." with "Thank you for your input."

If done well, it could be funny.

Personally I prefer it when comedy says fuck it and offends everyone. Where are you when we need you George Carlin?

There was some hubbub yesterday with George Lopez telling a black woman to stfu and get out (then having her thrown out ) because she was offended by one of his jokes during his act.

Are there any funny NetFlix series? Like their other stuff, but no comedies. The Wet Hot American Summer rehash was pretty awful. Did not get into their cartoons.

Not sure what you mean. For a while there a bunch of people were replying to you with "Thank you for your input." after you started doing it.

Everything outside "House of Cards" on Netflix is shit. What are they going to do when that's over?

I'm not a fan, but Orange is the new Black is at least quality, just not my cup of tea. Stranger Things was good, but recapturing that magic will be difficult in season 2.

My thoughts and prayers go to the white people offended by the show.

I'd send money but they're canceling Netflix so no need!

Narcos was excellent. The OA was very interesting.

It's a matter of taste but public and industry opinion seems to be that Netflix is THE place to park your serial stories right now.

Here's the concept trailer the original creator of the Dear White People film put together:

https://vimeo.com/44018538

It is more plainly satire than the trailer Netflix cut together, they even changed the line about dating a black guy--in the movie, the host's words are plainly ridiculous because the two are in love, but in the Netflix trailer the altered line and relevant shots make it seem like the white girl is just using the guy. Poe's Law demonstrated perfectly.

Why are you putting yourself through this pain? Wouldn't it be easier to deal with this massive insult to your race by just ignoring it?

After all, minorities had to deal with the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.

I tried the first few episodes, but gave up. Not sure why this thread is not in the TV section.
