Where do you stand on celebrating Valentine's Day as it pertains to your kids?

I've always been of the mindset that Valentine's day is more of a "romantic" holiday, between consenting people, celebrating your relationship.

It has never made sense to me when parents lavish gifts and treats upon their kids for this day.

Creepy vibe.

It's a worthless holiday period. I wish I could banish it.

I get my kids candy and a stuffed animal every year. I do it more for my daughters. I think I'm the most important male role model for my daughters. In MANY ways I create the standard for how a boy/man should treat them in the future. So I buy candy and stuffed animals on Valentine's Day and flowers on their birthday. Besides kids love stuff like this and it makes them feel special.

Yeah, I got on board this year with this...nothing major...actually wound up getting one of the 2 stuffed animals for free when I bought cards yesterday...we use this as another lesson of giving and receiving...the 6 month old doesn't get it, but my older daughter is almost 2, and she sees it...almost too well...plus she really likes picking stuff out for mom...

I agree with Nas.

When we were kids, we always got the chalk tasting hearts with the words on them.

I agree! Which is why, while we usually agree to not "celebrate" Valentine's Day as a couple, I still always get her something to show my appreciation of her...and the kids know it.

This guy gets it.

It's good to see that the entire board isn't a bunch of Grammy's watching, Hallmark holiday present buying betas.

I salute you, sir.

So you had time to upload 555,555 porn pics but no time to buy the special lady a box of chocolates?

What does time have to do with anything? It literally takes seconds to cut and paste a picture. FAIL.

Of all of the made up holidays, this one is as stupid as it gets. I'm sorry that you need to buy flowers and chocolates on a Tuesday in February, to show your wife that you care.

I bring her flowers when she least expects it. That's how you do it.

Sweetest day is worse.. Ill probably pick up my wife flowers today. I don't know, generally do a couple or more times a month anyways. But no, we don't go crazy for valentine's day around here. Usually she or I will cook something nice that the other will like. We are kind of low key on this stuff.

Sweetest Day actually IS made up. There actually was a Saint Valentine, and today is his feast day.

I hid a card and a chocolate bar in my wife's lunch bag. She found it and was completely surprised.

I don't even acknowledge the existence of Sweetest Day. I only recognize Valentine's Day, because the kids bring in valentines for their classmates and teachers.

I'm making dinner, so she has something to eat while I am bowling.

Birthday, anniversary, Christmas. That's enough.

How dare you be nice to your wife on a holiday! What type of man are you? Take off the skirt!

Good for you Frank. You can do nice things for your wife on holidays and every other day.

I tell, and show my wife, that I lover her everyday. We have been together for almost sixteen years. She doesn't need me to bring home flowers on February 14th, like a trained dog, to show her that I care. I bring her flowers when she doesn't expect them, just because. That's how you do it.

I get it for the guys who are dating or newlyweds. I bought her a Vermont Teddy Bear back in 2002.

You don't have to but most women still want you to. Even though you show her that you love her throughout the year it still matters. IMO and from my experience the women who say they don't care are lying. They brag about this shit.

Your dinner covers you.
