A group of young men were sharing nude photos of girls? Call me not shocked. We train these guys to be desensitized to killing people but they need to be perfect gentlemen and respect women in their private Facebook discussions.

Are we on the side of the guys that shared naked pictures of co-workers without their permission?

What other things are we willing to ignore once these trained killers are back home?

This is not standard office work. We train and ramp these guys up to be alpha male killers, and we are shocked when they act the part?

This is not restricted to the Marines. I am guessing this happens on about every college campus in the United States. Should we lock up everyone who is sexting or showing off nude pics without "consent"?

This isn't guys showing their friends the nudes they got while they are sitting around having a beer. These photos were uploaded and shared. There is a big difference between what they were doing and how you are trying to paint it.

You have addressed nothing, and instead reverted back to "this is bad," which is how we have ended up larger macro problems such as mass incarceration. Most people are not as perfect as you.

They probably should respect women (and men), yes. How controversial.

Whether something is surprising vs acceptable are two different things. I am not surprised that this is going in in the least. But that doesn't mean in the slightest that you can't hold those folks involved in it accountable for their actions. They really should know better.

A Marine is the one who alerted the proper authorities. Is that surprising?

In the digital age, how is that different? Especially since these guys likely grew up with social media being their primary form of communication.

It's like they had no choice but to upload the nude pictures. Maybe they're the real victims here.

You think "this is bad" is a deep thought? In an ideal world no one would be disrespected. In an ideal world we would not need Marines.

What should we do with people sharing nude photos? I would have to assume the number is in the millions. Should we put them all in prison?

If you get caught you get punished with the appropriate punishment for the crime.

However, I think you've just created a great defense for tax evasion! Millions do it! Should we put them all in prison?

So we should put them all in prison? Should we make sure that all of our Marines pass sensitivity training before we send them off to kill people in the Middle East? Don't you see the inherent hypocrisy in this scandal?

Why are you acting like not posting nude pictures of someone without their consent is difficult? What's wrong with you?

You have addressed nothing. What should be done in this case?

As for good or bad- I've already addressed it. In an ideal world this would not happen, but I have no idea the circumstances behind each case. There a lot of people who get off on people looking at their photos otherwise Reddit would not exist. Also, consent in sharing these photos likely depended on the status of fluid relationships.

If they were threatening or blackmailing it's another matter, but from what I can see it was a private Facebook group sharing pictures.

Why is it difficult?

You seem to be ignoring the circumstances here. If you think killing is just part of your job, how does that affect your brain in other areas of judgement?

Post subject:  Re: Marines Nude Photo "scandal"

If these guys got an actual nude picture in the mail and copied it and handed it out to every Marine on base we would think there was an issue with that. Why is this any different? You don't have to share nude pictures that you receive. I doubt it is a mandatory requirement in the Marine Handbook.

A lot of people like getting drunk and driving too. It doesn't make a difference for when you get caught.
