Unfortunately my kid's dance school doesn't dance in the south side parade because of the drinking issues. The downtown parade sucks. We will be in a McHenry parade; otherwise, its a week straight of drinking at bars and moose lodges (and yes, I realize the irony in this)! |

Those were back in the Dearborn days for parades. I'm sure Daley had a reason to move them out to Colombus (it is more efficient, if that is what is the principal concern for these events) but that move ripped the soul out of all the ethnic parades. |

It's a great time and family friendly in the upstairs ball room. It starts to get a little ugly later. Now that my father has passed, the family will be burying the hatchet after more than 30 years. Their float will be in honor of his memory and his rightful place as the original founder of the family business. Going to the Montgomery Club afterward. The Irish Center is not a safe place after 6:00 on St Paddy's Day. ![]() |

I recall being out of college and buying a ticket to ride on the Duke O'Brians'/Durty Nellies float. We started the day drinking Bloody Mary's at Dukes before taking the train to Nellies for a brunch and more booze. We eventually got on coach bus that had MANY coolers of beer and got down to the parade route. First site off the bus was a Chicago Police cruiser with it's trunk lid open and the trunk full of ice and beer....lots of beer. Fun time....what I recall of it... |
