I may have been wrong about his chances of winning. I just saw him connect with rural America in a way that I haven't seen a Democrat do probably ever.

It's just sinking in for those hillbillies that Donny Tinyhands is taking away their healthcare.

It was said that he did not win the nomination because black voters did not connect with him. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/ ... ern-213707

Just needed to have this town hall this time last year.

Older blacks would have come home and the under 40 blacks loved him.

Yeah. Drill baby drill. Fuck the Paris Accords.

I have no doubt that had you been in there in 1964, MLK would have been "too radical" and while Civil Right was important, now was just not the right time.

You are the person who thinks everything is going fine as is. Saying that throwing millions off healthcare and doing nothing about climate change is certainly akin to sticking your head in the sand about other issues. Better to elect the guy who will ramp up the drug war, and thinks Mexican's are rapists. He's not as dangerous as the guy who wants to make college easier to get to.

Virtually all of Bernie's platform was about giving the government a huge level of control of our lives with massive expansions of the government paying for things for us and adding 1 million government jobs. When you give the government control in such a large way it is very hard for that to be undone. We are already seeing it with Obamacare. You can't change it because millions will lose the government subsidized or provided insurance they have! The same thing would have happened with Medicaid for All, free tuition to public universities, free child care, 1 million government jobs, and other things that he wanted that were basically the government taking over and providing things.

Now, I know the answer to this is always "Well, Bernie probably wouldn't have done any of that and it was about creating a dialogue!" but that is a weak way of saying that his ideas are not things we should actually do. I get that you and many others got really excited about the "Free puppies for all!" platform but it doesn't mean that it was good for the government to control so much more of our lives.

Statements like this always confuse me. What government control, state/local/federal or otherwise is this overriding force in your life?

I'm being honest here. I'm curious.

I'm just doing a 3 minute overview of my day to day life and I can't think of really any instance where I feel like the government is controlling me. I can't remember the last time I thought "Damn government is preventing me from doing X or forcing me do to Y."

I guess I do have to take my shoes off to fly on a plane, but other than that, I'm not sure where all this government control is, should be at. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I mean maybe we live vastly different lives, but of all the things I worry about on a weekly basis "the government controlling my life" is tied with "my boss might make me literally eat a shit sandwich in order to keep my job" on priority totem pole.

I can't even tell if Rick is being a prick or legitimately believes that was Bernie's platform.

While there are some things the government does, and in many cases should, control, you are ultimately correct.

The issue is when you have a candidate who wants the government to control child care, health care, college, make 1 million new government jobs for no good reasons besides giving people work, and other things it becomes a legitimate concern. Make no mistake, if the government is the sole or provides a large majority of the funding for something they are in control of it.

So, I don't disagree with you on what you said but it also isn't really a question for me anyways.

All of these things came from his site:

Medicaid for all.
1 million more government jobs.
Government child care.
Free tuition to public colleges.

I don't think he was wrong on everything but he was the one who chose to make that a primary focus of his campaign.

No " free puppies for all" ?

There is so much pork and waste that those programs could all be implemented, watch this buffoon Trump expand the military and piss trillions away, enjoy your " victory "

Yeah. Because corporations don't currently have all of that control over our lives. It would have been terrible to try something different. Tell all of the people with healthcare now that were dying before that Obamacare is an unnecessary intrusion on their lives.

Here is a link to the Sanders townhall: https://youtu.be/Hh90XXl4JHY

Should have sent Brick there instead to lecture these people about their White Privilege and tell them white people are doing great. You can repackage that speech to tell poor black people getting thrown off Medicaid by Trump that it's fine, telling cracker jokes is now acceptable so that will get you through your illness.

I get emotional responses like that sound really good but it has nothing to do with what I am saying or want. Getting the uninsured healthcare is a good and noble goal and the ACA was good for that.

What's not factual that people are dying, and more will die when they are kicked off?

You enjoy the latte liberalism of the status quo. You can be the champion of making sure white privilege is stamped out, and avoiding the horrors of Canadian healthcare.

Quote:
Canadians with cystic fibrosis survive about 10 years longer than Americans with the same genetic disease, according to startling new research that raises questions about how to improve care.

You are just making all of these emotional pleas that aren't relevant.

I don't want anyone to lose health insurance. I don't want to lose mine either and instead rely on the government to provide it to me in the hugely efficient and quality way they do so many other things.

If you had any sort of rebuttal you would avoid buzzword filled uselessness like "white privilege".
