If you had your choice, which one would you go with? |

I have a 2014 Equinox and really like it. I think you are basically choosing between which logo you want though on that choice. |

1. Buy the GMC 2. Start the car 3. Put the car in drive 4. Get out of the car while it is idling 5. Run in front of the car 6. Lay down 7. Let the car run you over |

Just got rid of my 2011 Terrain. Probably the worst new car I've ever owned. Broke down a lot quicker than any other car I've had. Equinox is the same exact car but with a different grill. Don't get either, go buy a Japanese car that isn't a piece of shit. I just bought a Murano 2 weeks ago, love it. |

I have a 2002 GMC Envoy that is running like a champ - the Terrain is awfully underpowered was always my experience. |

Dissenting view: I like my 2013 Equinox LTZ very much. 57,000 miles in and no service issues yet. I'm planning on unloading it at 125k like every car I've ever bought new. I have a cousin with a 2013 LT with about 80k on it, and he's had very minor issues. There are some minor differences between the trim packages in the Equinox and the Terrain. I went with the Equinox because I wanted the LTZ package (which the Terrain used to call the SLT2) because I didn't want a sun roof, but I wanted the rest of the upgrades, as Chevy will do that in limited quantities. I need the Equinox for head room. I had a 7-seater before to have enough head room, and that was stupid because I live alone. I have the 4-cylinder without AWD, because I wanted the better gas mileage. I leave eco mode on all the time except in mountains and snow (see below), I average 25 mpg with a mix of commuting from SE DuPage downtown and suburban driving. I can get up to about 30 if I take it out on the interstate on the weekend. Definitely get the upgrade to the bigger music/climate/rear camera console. A few things I don't like about it: - Gas mileage goes completely to shit over 75 mph - The 4cyl doesn't like mountains in eco mode - Compared to my last two vehicles (a 2003 Pilot and a 1997 tank of a Ford Explorer), it performs so-so in the snow. Doesn't like sudden starts. - I don't like the tacky orange dashboard light color on the Terrain |

If you live near O'Hare, try making a rental for a Fullsize SUV for a weekend rate from Alamo. They don't always have one (in which case you just leave) but you can usually ask a porter and they'll find you one. When I bought mine, I went on a 1100 mile weeklong driving trip in the Carolinas and Virginia, and managed to get one from National for the week. I was really able to put it through its paces and convince myself that I wanted one. To another poster's comment, it is a little underpowered in the 4 cylinder model. But for driving on Chicago expressways, it's fine. |

If you buy a SUV or crossover with a 4 cylinder, you are begging for transmission problems |

I have a 2013 Equinox and echo what Chet said. Although if you are planning on joining Nas and myself in having a gaggle of children, it can only fit 2 car seats. |

Wife has a Buick Enclave. Underpowered but with three kids and friends, needed more room and not loving the way third row in suburban is these days. |

buick makes the best vehicles for the money imo. yeah, slower and heavier... but that weight is what makes the decent. |

Both the Highlander and the Explorer have surprisingly little headroom. I have to pass on those as rentals unless only sedans are left. And all dodge journeys should be driven to some place in Nebraska and simultaneously set on fire. Oddly, the Traverse / Enclave / Acadia have less leg room for the driver than the Equinox / Terrain. |
