I would say steroids in baseball was a pretty big one.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I assume it means he was offering his players if the Sox won the pennant and were going to face the NL in the World Series. At the time the Sox were in a heated pennant race with Cleveland and the Yankees. After the Sox players were suspended Cleveland took the AL.

One thing that doesn't get much play is that the event that brought the heat down on MLB at the time was a bad game in August between the Cubs and I think the Phillies that was so obviously fixed that people started flipping out.

Here's the box from that Cub game. You can't really tell much from it, but I have to believe the suspected culprits were Herzog and Flack, two guys who had less than stellar reputations.

Yeah, there was a lot of gambling throughout baseball at the time. There's little doubt the Cubs threw the '18 Series too. Max Flack's specialty was getting picked off whenever he got on.

My Dad how played Semi-Pro ball...told me his team was playing a game in Willow Springs and a guy came up and hit a ball in the Des Plaines River which was quit a poke....The next time he came up same results......they had a meeting at the mound wondering who the fuck was the guy and one guy said ain't that Buck Weaver?
