Which scandal had the biggest impact on how sports are covered today? The knee-jerk reaction is to choose OJ Simpson (because, you know, murder), but are there others?

I would say steroids in baseball was a pretty big one.

I think this is still considered the King Kong of sports scandals, but there have been many.

Black Sox is clearly the biggest sports scandal of all-time.

If we are talking scandals that impact sports coverage, then we have to go to a more modern one.

The Yankees offered Comiskey to give him use of their team?

What does that even mean? The players would be temporary White Sox?

The thing that has always pissed me off on the Black Sox scandal is that Buck Weaver got screwed. He took no money, threw no games, and still got banned for life.

Fuck Landis. (who was an awful person in just about every way)

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I assume it means he was offering his players if the Sox won the pennant and were going to face the NL in the World Series. At the time the Sox were in a heated pennant race with Cleveland and the Yankees. After the Sox players were suspended Cleveland took the AL.

One thing that doesn't get much play is that the event that brought the heat down on MLB at the time was a bad game in August between the Cubs and I think the Phillies that was so obviously fixed that people started flipping out.

Here's the box from that Cub game. You can't really tell much from it, but I have to believe the suspected culprits were Herzog and Flack, two guys who had less than stellar reputations.

Aren't there a ton of stories out about how crooked the 1918 World Series was, too?

Yeah, there was a lot of gambling throughout baseball at the time. There's little doubt the Cubs threw the '18 Series too. Max Flack's specialty was getting picked off whenever he got on.

He was the only cycler that most people have ever heard of. He won the Tour De France 5 times. The scandal was how he lied about everyone who outed him.

I would throw the Tiger Woods scandal in there too.

My Dad how played Semi-Pro ball...told me his team was playing a game in Willow Springs and a guy came up and hit a ball in the Des Plaines River which was quit a poke....The next time he came up same results......they had a meeting at the mound wondering who the fuck was the guy and one guy said ain't that Buck Weaver? Sure enough it was on leaving the mound my old man said let's not pitch to him anymore!
