I can help with that one ... I didn't know it had been co-opted by deploarables though ... God knows what they might mean by it.

It goes back to a play in 1938 called, appropriately enough, Gaslight ... in which a husband tries to make his wife nuts (yarrrrrrrr) by dimming the lights (run by gas at the time) in the house (unbeknownst to her) and then basically telling her she's crazy when she asks him if the lights were dimmer than they used to be. It's a sign of an abusive relationship and a means to keep the victim 'stuck' in that relationship.

Basically you screw with someone (perhaps best labeled your 'victim'), albeit discretely rather than overtly, to the point where they start to seriously question their own mental faculties.

I got in a facebook argument a few weeks ago when I disagreed that Donald Trump was "gaslighting" the American people because we're not really in a relationship, per se, with Donald Trump. You can't use that word for everything.

I'm very glad I don't know what "woke" means. Old and out of touch can sometimes be a positive.

It's impossible to take anyone seriously who is complaining about it. "You're gaslighting me" is saying "Im too mentally fragile to handle being a person". Fuck anyone who uses that term in a victim way.

And "gaslighting" has become the insulation protecting leftists/SJW's from ever being wrong. Anytime anyone points out that your stated fact is wrong, they are "gaslighting" you. For example:

"There's more hate crimes being committed now that Trump is elected!"

"No there aren't. Racially-motivated crimes are at a 5-year low."

"[links to HuffPo quoting activists] Read up. This conversation is over, I refuse to be gaslit."

When the conversation has a particularly feminist bent, you can substitute "mansplain" for "gaslit".
