A lorry has smashed into a store in central Stockholm, killing at least three people, Swedish police say.

Several people were also injured in the incident on Drottninggatan (Queen Street), one of the city's major pedestrian streets.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said everything pointed to an act of terrorism.

Local media reported one arrest, but police have said they cannot confirm anyone is being held.

The lorry was hijacked earlier on Friday, its owner said.

I was gonna post this a while back but it already seemed mostly wrapped up ... my understanding is they caught the guy so it's all done but the sweeping more or less.

Well maybe they haven't got the guy ... they claim they haven't arrested anyone and they're pushing a picture or two of the fella they're looking to talk to in a calm, soothing manner I'm sure.

Information from police press conference:

A truck has driven into a crowd on Drottninggatan in Stockholm, into the wall of the shop Åhlens.

Police does not want to confirm the amount of dead and injured. [earlier, unconfirmed numbers in media were 3 dead and 8 injured]

Police is not suprised about what has happened, given the current situation in Europe.

Police does not know if this is a single event or not.

Police throughout the country has been ordered to increase their visibility, especially in important places.

They have published images of two people [see below] who has been seen at the event. Police want to get in contact with these people or anyone who knows the identity of these people. If you have any information, call the police on 114 14.

Earlier during the week, the policed rehearsed a similar scenario.

Police needs more witnesses. Please contact them if you have any information.

They can not confirm any shootings in conjunction with the event.

Police did not have any indications about the event before it happened.

They are currently interrogating the person driving the truck before it was hijacked.

Waste of time ... they'd be able to rebuild the store with parts already on-hand and be ready to re-open tomorrow.

If you are in an Ikea during a terrorist attack, can you cut through directly to an exit? Or do you still have to navigate through their 'maze'?

You go to either the Svedinska or Trupelkinsa bunkers. They are in Aisle 17 Bin 52 and 57.
