A man walked into a bar, started screaming incoherently at various people, shoots and kills the manager. Punchline is he got dropped by a customer with a conceal carry permit. The perp had more than one gun and a couple knives. He very well may have tried to kill more had this unnamed hero not been there to stop him. It's a shame he got one innocent man as it is. If we're going to demonize the active shooters (correctly) we should considering the instances where a weapon in use saves lives. This is actually a good idea. I find it pretty shitty that we never hear these stories, only the stories about successful mass shootings. Would probably be a good idea if people who stop mass shooters before they get going were honored nationally as heroes similar to other heroic people like Sully. |

Another one from yesterday's news... Jacksonville Florida.. man follows a woman home and strong arms his way into her house. Nice neighborhood and this happened at 10am. She manages to cap the intruder and he bails. He wasn't killed, had non life threatening injuries, but it did end the attack. Maybe he was just going to steal some money or was looking for drugs. Maybe he was going to do something horrible to her. This is the kind of story I want people to remember when they posit that we don't need weapons in our homes in good neighborhoods because it's crazy that something would happen and the cops are just a phone call away. If the victim's family brings a civil suit that could tie up the courts and tax payer money for years. Ice bullet or some kind of unidentifiable poison seems more efficient here. But I'm sure all of this is situation dependent. |
